Hi all,
has anybody experience with treating restless legs (+ insomnia of course)? I have a very severe case in my practice, the syndrom lasts since 7 years. She had many therapies with no success at all. She will come in two weeks for her first QT session with me. Are there key areas like the brain? Should I teach her the Core point? Thanks for sharing your experiences, Bianca |

I have found that as people open more RLS seems to decrease or even leave. So yes, the core pt breath should be useful. Emotional work has also proven to be effective for the clients that I have worked with with RLS as a complaint.

Hi,
It's just a syndrome that is called Restless Leg Syndrome, where you have to keep moving your legs about. Not sure why it happens, but one possibility is fluctuating hormone levels - quite a few women get it before their periods. In women it could also be caused by uterine malpositioning that obstructs the blood flow to the legs (check out my post on Maya Abdominal Massage under Off Topic). Normally, a syndrome is a collection of symptoms that the medical profession don't necessarily have any explanations for. IBS would be in this category too. |

Thanks Cranial therapist for your answer. I know the syndrome and the newest research results. I am interested in QT experiences in treating this syndrome - beside restoring the nervous system etc.

I responded to the restless legs question under the SC forum, where Bianca had also posted it, and suggested holding Jin Shin Jyutsu "Safety Energy Lock" #8, which is located at the outside edge of the crease in back of the knees. In light of your response, cranial therapist, I thought it was interesting to note that the #8's, among other things, open up the pelvic area. For restless legs, as physicians we use Ropinirole in a clinical setting. This acts as a Dopamine receptor agonist. The problem appears to be an imbalance between Dopamine getting through neurons (which is low) and acetocholine (not more ACH, but more relative to Dopamine) This is a similar to the problem of parkinson's patients, not getting enough dopamine trasmission through, so the involuntary spasms from the parasympathetics take over in excess.
In light of this, maybe try a way to stimulate the sympathetics via sacral inhibition or rib raising. Sacral inhibition: Place you hands on the sacrum and imobilize it while the patient takes deep breathes, (you'd do the opposite if you wanted to stimulate the parasympathetics) Rib raising: Place the patient on their side, put their superior hand on their ear, and place one your hands on the elbow and the other hand on the angle of the ribs and just pull the ribs toward you. Those rib heads get moving and rub against the sympathetic chain ganglia causing bronchodilation in the lungs and a subsequent release of adrenergics and parasympathetic inhibition and hopefully decreased ACH trasmitter release releaving the restless leg imblance. |

Dear responders,
thank you all. You made very interesting suggestions. Yes Alain, when I think of this specific patient the emotional healing and the opening through core pt. breath make a lot of sense. I will ask during a distant QT session if I should also work esp. on the Dopamine transmission and/or investigate the pelvic area. I will let you know if I find out sth. helpful. Thanks a lot! Jocelyn, Thanks for posting this information. My mom has RLS and had only been able to keep it under control with walking several times a day. I told her to run energy behind her knees and it has help tremendously! She is very pleased with the results. Thanks again. Andrea |
