I need your help for a bad adventure i had with a Qigong teacher. I purchased the Essence Qigong a year and half ago, and practiced a while since then. But i got scared by the fact that i kept reading in many books that Qigong could not be learned from books or videos and has to be learned from a real teacher, becasue can be dangerous for physical health. So i managed to find one instructor in Rome, and i finally got one. The Qigong she teaches is very different from essence qi gong , (and i felt less powerful) . After a month or two of practice with this teacher i told her about Essence Qigong and the fact i use energy healing with my counseling work, and she got very upset! She said to me "Never do qigong without a teacher because you can really hurt yourself after a while if you do it incorrectly!!!" She almost screamed to me. Since i work in the field of energy (i use Qt and Pranic Healing) she told me tha if i don't practice qi gong correctly i can cacth myselfs some disease from my clients..i found that beahviour (and others she had) very irritating for me , so i left that teacher and i quit her style of qigong.
But the doubts did'nt left me at all... So i want to ask any of you (if Alain is hearing please help me) some question: 1) It is true that learning qi gong from videos and books can be dangerous? 2)There are some books that teaches forms of qi gong that are simple and effective fore self healing and longevity? 3)Is there any risk in practicing Essence Qigong and the form of Qigong that i learned from Core Transformation 1 , having just watched the videos? 4)If one works with energy healing , one must use Qigong as personal practice ? Can Essence Qigong be used as personal practice ? 5)is essential to have a real teacher to learn qigong ? Thanks to anyone who can answer me! Andrea from Italy p.s. Sorry for my english as well! Your English is a million times better than my Italian!
There are thousands of forms of qigong. I would recommend avoiding any teacher who teaches fear. It sounds like this teacher does not understand what you are doing. I went to a qigong workshop. At the end of four days, the teacher stood in front of the group and said I'm going to do a healing for this person up here on the stage -- DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME -- I can do this because I've had years of training but -- YOU ARE NOT TO TRY THIS AT HOME. The person on stage didn't have any visible health challenge and didn't vocalize one either. I wasn't impressed. We can certainly facilitate measurable healing with Quantum-Touch with just a few hours of learning and/or just from the book or video. I like qigong because it helps me to be aware of energy but as a healing modality for myself and others -- not so much. I'm confident that Allain and QT headquarters WOULD NOT release a dvd that would be dangerous to practice without an instructor. Allain IS the qigong instructor on the dvd. My advice, go with Allain's dvd while avoiding any nasty instructor. Hi Andrea,
Cris has some very good points and I will add my 2 cents as well. To answer your questions in order: 1. Some Qigong forms are very exacting and learning them from a video is not a good idea because they are so easy to do wrong. Essence Qigong is a very forgiving form and does not have this problem. The Qigong we teach in the Core class does ask you to pay attention to the height of your hands, as long as you do this all should be fine. 2. The majority of the Qigong forms that are in books are fine and to learn them from a book is certainly possible and many people do start learning Qigong in this way. Relax and enjoy them. 3. No risk as such. Just stay relaxed and open to the flows produced. Let the Qi teach you, is what we usually say. 4. To do energy healing it is not necessary to do a personal practice as such. I personally find it beneficial but it is certainly not required. If you like the Essence Qigong or the Standing on stake form from the Core 1 DVD then either is fine, but it is a personal choice. 5. It is not essential to have a real teacher. It is useful to have someone to ask questions of as you do Qigong. Some forms it is best to have a live teacher, others it isn't such a big deal. As stated earlier both Essence and the Standing on stake forms are fine. If you find yourself with lots of questions then the instructor can be of better assistance. Others may disagree with the comments I made in #5. I personally enjoyed having a live instructor when I first started Qigong. The form I learned was extremely exacting and as such very easy to do wrong. That said having an instructor that is in fear is not the way to go either. If you feel the need for a live instructor, go and watch them teach for a while and talk to their students first and see if you like the attitude of both before you choose a person to study with again. Enjoy the day Alain Herriott instructor (advanced QT classes) |

Was this Chi Gong teacher alarmed about your learning Essence Chi Gong on your own? I'd believe Alain on this issue! Or was she alarmed about you doing Chi Gong healing?
The way it's been explained to me is that there are 2 broad types of energy healing. One type asks you to do various exercises or meditations, etc so that you re-fill your own 'tank', so to speak. Then you send the energy stored there out to the client. I HAVE heard warnings from the people who use this type of energy work. One excellent local person is a gifted Chi Gong healer; he warns against sending out more energy than your personal practice is re-filling (you'd be depleting yourself). With the other category, including Quantum Touch or Reiki or a number of other types, the energy you are offering/sending is NOT yours! You are just a conduit so that the energy passes through you on the way to the client. There's nothing to deplete since you aren't the source or the storage tank! I find I feel better myself after energy work since I'm picking up extra too. So with QT or pranic, etc her warnings don't apply (in my opinion). Relax and enjoy QT! Holly |

It's very worth noting that QiGong healing uses the practitioner's own energy to facilitate healing in a client. To that end, cautioning students of a 4-day workshop to not attempt QiGong healing is, in my opinion, not uncalled for. QiGong practice that is oriented toward healing generally entails a period of training where the practitioner does no healing for a length of time (sometimes years) to accumulate large stores of personal energy. This is done to protect the practitioner from draining their personal stores during their healing practice. Of course, Quantum-Touch does not have this issue because practitioners act as a conduit for universal life-force energy. So, yeah, the path to being able to do healing work is measured in hours rather than years. trane -- // Trane Francks <trane@living-intentionally.com> // Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty. |
