Hi all,
I thought I'd start this new Topic as there were some positive responses to my initial request and I am away for some time. This I posted at February 7. Hi All, For some time I have been thinking of putting a seperate link for all Herbal Health related information/cures etc. and information on the use/warnings of medicines the like and way's to recognise certain illnesses eg the STROKE post by Christina, Certified Public Hugger, Wendy's on Anti biotics etc. It would be I think very helpful to find things like this in one glance. There are so many great, helpful tips flying around on the board and its a long way If you think this is a good idea I also would like to suggest those who have already have put posts on the board on tips to copy them and paste their news on this special link. Also links to websites etc. I know I have posted some here and there eg (honey&cinnamon) and I do get from time to time quite interesting/helpful tips from HSI and HSA and other sources that I would like to tell you. We could start a whole new topic. Any suggestions if you think this is a good idea and where to put it eg General discussions, Off Topic or a complete new one? SALVIA HISPANICA L CHIA Blood pressure, Blood sugar, Cholesterol balance, Energy, Skin, Joints, Digestion 6 times more calcium than whole milk. 15 times more magnesium than broccoli. 3 times more antioxidant power than fresh blueberries. More fiber than flaxseed. More protein than soy. Gives energy and also sleep is better. Regular stool, as occasional constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas and cramps disappear. Weight-control becomes more manageable, as hunger pangs and cravings vanish. Low in calories. A safe, natural way to promote healthy BLOOD SUGAR ___________________________________________________________________________Chia (Salvia hispanica) is a plant of the genus Salvia in the Mint family. It originated in the central Valley of Mexico. It was largely cultivated by the Aztecs in prehispanic times and was one of the five more important food plants in that time. After the arrival of the spaniards, the plant almost became extinct because of cultural and religious reasons. Chia is grown commercially for its seed, a food that is very rich in omega-3 fatty acids, since it is the vegetable source with the most Omega 3 content, specifically α-linolenic acid or ALA. It also adds antioxidants and a variety of vitamins, minerals and fiber. For all these health related benefits, chia is in the process of application before the EU authorities to be considered as a novel food. Chia seeds are typically small ovals with a diameter of about one millimeter. They are mottle-colored with brown, gray, black and white. Chia seeds typically contain 20% protein, 34% oil, 25% dietary fiber (mostly soluble with high molecular weight), and significant levels of antioxidants (chlorogenic and caffeic acids, myricetin, quercetin, and kaempferol flavonols). The oil from chia seeds contains a very high concentration of omega-3 fatty acid — approximately 64%.[5] Chia seeds contain no gluten and trace levels of sodium[2]. There are no known toxic components of chia. Food preparation Chia seed may be eaten raw as a dietary fiber and omega-3 supplement. Grinding chia seeds produces a meal called pinole, which can be made into porridge or cakes. Chia seeds soaked in water or fruit juice is also often consumed and is known in Mexico as chia fresca. The soaked seeds are gelatinous in texture and are used in gruels, porridges and puddings. Ground chia seed is used in baked goods including breads, cakes and biscuits. * From Wikipedia * _____________________________________________________________________________ * Ancient Aztecs called it their "running food." Legend has it that just a spoonful of chia was enough to power an Aztec runner through a grueling, 24-hour forced march. You can use it in hot or cold cereal. Or you can whip it up with your morning shake, add it to fruit-flavored yogurt, or sprinkle it onto salads. It's a perfect fat replacement and Heart-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids. An ideal thickener for soups, stocks and gravies, because it absorbs so much water. An addition to vegetarian dishes, because it's so rich in protein has all the essential amino acids. No gritty texture. When you crush it in a blender or coffee grinder, it virtually disappears into the recipe. 3 AGE-DEFYING MIRACLES #1. Fights free-radical damage. Aging happens when damaged cells duplicate. But antioxidants neutralize free radicals that cause this damage. It contains 3 times more antioxidant capacity than fresh blueberries. #2. Flushes out age-accelerating toxins. Toxins that accumulate in your colon can also attack your body. The fiber moves those toxins out of your system, pronto. #3. Helps build healthy new cells. Your cell walls crave Omega 3 fatty acids -- and if they don't get them, they'll use unhealthy fats as a substitute. Love, Light and Happiness. Pinky |

SIGNS OF STROKE: (I thought this was important enough to paste here)
STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S. T. R. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks. Seriously.. Please read: STROKE IDENTIFICATION: During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .....she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this... A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough. RECOGNIZING A STROKE Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps, STR . Read and Learn! Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke. Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions: S * Ask the individual to SMILE. T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. It is sunny out today) R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS. If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher. New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other, that is also an indication of a stroke. Thanks for thinking of this Pinky - great idea. Christina Blessings, Love, Laughter, and Big Warm Hugs |

This I got from Dr. Sears newsletter the "I' who recommends the prescription dosage is Dr. Sears Certain nutritional supplements can address the root of the problem. In Europe, they are available by prescription only. In the US, you can get these supplements without a prescription in health food stores. You can combine them for a potent anti-aging brain blend. Phosphatidylserine (PS) is vital to accurate brain functioning. It is highly concentrated in brain cells. Its job is to house neurotransmitters and regulate their release. As we age, we need more help from PS. PS supplementation can make the difference. Neurology published a well-done study, which proves that PS supplementation can restore cognitive function. Researchers gave the subjects either a regimen of PS or a placebo for 12 weeks. Volunteers were between the ages of 50 and 75 with memory impairment due to age. The PS subjects had an improvement in learning and recalling names. They were better at face recognition, remembering telephone numbers, remembering misplaced objects, and concentrating. Subjects began to improve in as little as 3 weeks. 2 I recommend taking 100-200 mg of the PS a day. Anybody familiar with PS ? Love, Light and Health ! Pinky |

This is from QT and Weightloss, thought I'd post it here aswell. It's all about the LIVER, IMMUNESYSTEM etc.
***********This is a summary of a HSI article************** HSI reveals previously unsuspected causes of (and cures for!) weight gain.(They say: It's NOT your willpower or calorie intake...but it could be your liver...your nutritional equilibrium...or even your immune system.) Hidden cause: A clogged liver is standing between you and the body you've always wanted! How can your liver keep you overweight? Fact is, your liver performs many digestive and energy-balancing mechanisms. It stores glycogen (energy waiting to be used), detoxifies your blood of chemicals, drugs, and bacteria of all types, and it manufactures bile to process, filter, and digest the fats you eat. But if your liver is clogged with excess toxins and fats, it slows down and can't perform its vital functions efficiently. After decades of filtering out fats and toxins - from fast food to second-hand smoke - your liver has 'had it.' If you eat a lot of processed foods...if there's a chance you were ever over-exposed to chemicals...if you're even a 'casual' drinker ...or if your diet has ever been heavy on saturated fat (animal or vegetable)...you need to tend to your liver. Chisel down to your naturally healthy size...without dangerous pharmaceuticals, yo-yo dieting, artificial sweeteners, fake fats, or drug store appetite suppressants. These are the very 'tools' that make you sicker...fatter...and more frustrated than ever. They don't help you lose weight, and you don't need them in your body...or your life! What you DO need to lose weight is the truth about the real cause of your weight gain. It's not low self-esteem. And you're not 'weaker' than your skinny friends. Fact is, weight gain is rarely a consequence of poor will power. Hidden cause: Why you binge, and never feel satisfied If you have days when you 'can't stop eating,' that's a clear sign you're suffering from an inner hunger that no amount of will power and discipline can overcome. I'm not talking about emotional hunger, I'm talking about cellular hunger! Your body is starving for real nourishment. Hidden cause: Why you crave sugary snacks, packaged cakes, breads and muffins... What causes cravings...especially for processed foods high in sugar, wheat, yeast, or fat? The number one cause is undiagnosed food sensitivities or allergies. How can food sensitivity cause cravings? If you're sensitive to a certain food, your body, in an effort to mask your symptoms - such as fatigue or digestive upset - releases narcotic-like chemicals called opioids. You get addicted to this release and unknowingly seek out the foods that get them flowing again: your trigger foods...usually processed, chemical-laden foods like bread, pasta, and packaged snacks. A sure sign you're caught in an 'opioid cycle' is that you eat the same 'favorite' foods throughout the week. Most allergy sufferers eat a diet consisting of 30 foods or less...which they eat over and over. And, to make matters even worse, food sensitivities and allergies not only make you want fattening foods, they make your fat cells (along with your waistline) expand! To protect you from these foreign food 'invaders,' your fat cells bloat up and act as buffers between the 'toxic' chemicals and your organs. Your body hangs onto that fat to keep you from poisoning yourself...and as a result, you're lugging around pounds of toxins and fat cell 'buffers!' ********************* Love |

Beta Glucans--Absolutely phenomenal stuff! I get the Solaray 200 mgs (I can't afford the Immutrition). They're good to take one a day, but I don't usually take them all the time. But during flu season, I do one every day. If I think I'm getting sick, I'll take one in the morning and one at night. If I AM sick, I'll take 3 or 4 in a day. But generally it will keep you from getting sick. It's a miracle worker! I also take garlic, zinc, E, beta carotene and LOADS of Vitamin C if I am REALLY starting to feel bad. But since I've used BG, that only happens if I haven't been able to take any. I believe it's made from oats or yeast (if you're yeast sensitive I guess you'd have to be sure you had some that was yeast free. OK, just checked the label from the 200 mg Solaray, and it says it is isolated from the cell wall of baker's yeast.)
But if I only take 1 thing, it's BG, even over Vit. C. It's a fantastic thing to have on hand! It's a great one for building up the immune system! |

Thought I'd post this here as well with OIS (other interesting stuff!!!) Thanks Pinky for suggesting it.
A sliced Carrot looks like the human eye The pupil, iris and radiating lines look just like the human eye...and YES science now shows that carrots greatly enhance blood flow to and function of the eyes. A Tomato has four chambers and is red. The heart is red and has four chambers. All of the research shows tomatoes are indeed pure heart and blood food. Grapes hang in a cluster that has the shape of the heart. Each grape looks like a blood cell and all of the research today shows that grapes are also profound heart and blood vitalizing food. </ FONT>A Walnut looks like a little brain, a left and right hemisphere, upper cerebrums and lower cerebellums. Even the wrinkles or folds are on the nut just like the neo-cortex. We now know that walnuts help develop over 3 dozen neuron-transmitters for brain function. Kidney Beans actually heal and help maintain kidney function and yes, they look exactly like the human kidneys. Celery, Bok Choy, Rhubarb and more look just like bones. These foods specifically target bone strength. Bones are 23% sodium and these foods are 23% sodium. If you don't have enough sodium in your diet the body pulls it from the bones, making them weak. These foods replenish the skeletal needs of the body. Eggplant, Avocadoes and Pears target the health and function of the womb and cervix of the female - they look just like these organs. Today's research shows that when a woman eats 1 avocado a week, it balances hormones, sheds unwanted birth weight and prevents cervical cancers. And how profound is this? .... It takes exactly 9 months to grow an avocado from blossom to ripened fruit. There are over 14,000 photolytic chemica l cons tituents of nutrition in each one of these foods (modern science has only studied and named about 141 of them). Figs are full of seeds and hang in twos when they grow. Figs increase the motility of male sperm and increase the numbers of S perm a S we ll to overcome male sterility. Sweet Potatoes look like the pancreas and actually balance the glycemic index of diabetics. Olives assist the health and function of t he ovaries Grapefruits, Oranges, and other Citrus fruits look just like the mammary glands of the female and actually assist the health of the breasts and the movement of lymph in and out of the breasts. Onions look like body cells. Today's research shows that onions help clear waste materials from all of the body cells They even produce tears which wash the epithelial layers of the eyes "Expect miracles" |

Hi Tweasel and Wendy,
ps. Oh forgot you, Christina you were here first and thanks! Love your post Wendy, already told you but does no harm saying it again. Great you joining this line of health news and tips. So glad to see other posts and pictures than my own lonely one. Tweasel, thanks I googled and found this about Beta glucans sounds very promising. Agaricus Mushroom 50% Polysaccharides 100% Naturally Extracted 10:1 Standardized True Spectrum Herbal Supplement Paradise Herbs Beta Glucans is a hot water extract of Agaricus Blazi Murill. Agaricus, also known as ABM or God's Mushroom, is one of the most abundant yeast-free sources of beta 1,6 and 1,3 D-Glucan. Most beta glucan products are derived from yeast of which many people may have an intolerance. We are pleased to offer a yeast-free beta glucan product for total immune enhancement. Love,Pinky |

Cool, Pinky! So there are some that work for people that are yeast sensitive. I had checked the label last night to see if it mentioned that, and it did not. They always put on their labels if things are yeast free, and that one did NOT say it!
The chia sounds great! I had heard of that for years, but had never heard anything about it! I'm going to try some; thanks for the tips! |

I don't have much experience with phosphatidylserine, but I did have a very bad experience with phosphatidylcholine. It was an ingredient in a product designed to boost memory and alertness. After a couple of days on that stuff, I became VERY depressed. I was so depressed one day that I had to leave work at lunch time. I couldn't function any more. I just went home and cried all afternoon on my bed. Very bizarre behavior!
After I started to recover a bit I started doing some research. I found out that this was a rare reaction to phosphatidylcholine. In a small percentage of people, too much of that can trigger suicidal depression. So, the moral of the story is...be careful what you put into your body. |

Absolutely! For instance, I'm one of the approximately 1% of the population for whom melatonin and tryptophan are sleep suppressors, not inducers. Humans do not all have the same biochemistry. If you're going to try something that strongly affects the metabolism be careful; start with low doses, monitor how you feel and have your blood chemistry checked regularly.

Hi Neiby,
Thanks for your comment on phosphatidylserine and I will send a copy of your post (if that's OK with you)to the Dr. Sears Newsletter. Its very important they know this! If it is known I'll ask why they did not put a warning in their newsletter. |

I had a violent reaction to Valium when I was young. Also, when I took Ginko, I couldn't sleep. Melatonin works wonderfully for me, but NOT in high dosages. In higher dosages it keeps we VERY awake, but drowsy! MISERABLE! But I took very low dosages of Melatonin. If I had taken the 3 mg ones, I would have been bouncing off the walls! For years, I took 200 mcgs. Also, your aging changes the dosage you need on Melatonin. My suggestion to people on that was to start with a 200 mcg capsule, and work up to the dosage that was right for you. I was taking melatonin nightly for years until I got my first CST treatment last June, and I haven't needed it once since then. (I had 3 CST treatments, and then a few QT. The energy work REALLY helped my sleep.) But I had taken the melatonin for years, and had worked up from 200 mcg to 1 mg, at the age of 50.

I tried taking Melatonin in high school to help with my insomnia. It seemed to help me sleep a bit, but it made me really REALLY emotional!
I was crying and upset when I was taking it, my mom refused to let me take it anymore hahaha. Ven |

Hi
Has anyone have experience with this? Using EFT for Anorexia & Bulimia EFT's results for Anorexia and Bulimia are often impressive. The benefits are two fold: First, just performing the mechanical application of EFT usually reduces or collapses the immediate need to perform the behavior. This is a big help, but is usually temporary. Second, EFT's long term successes are due to its ability to address the true cause of most eating disorders ... namely ... the need to "tranquilize" anxiety caused by unresolved emotional issues. Until one's underlying anger, fear, guilt, trauma, etc. are dissipated, the eating disorder will remain. EFT is ideally designed to collapse these issues (that is what it does best) and, properly applied, the need to tranquilize disappears. And with it goes the Anorexia or Bulimia. It should be evident that eating disorders, compulsions, addictions and weight issues have similar emotional causes. That is why they are comprehensively included below. www.emofree.com |
