I haven't posted for a while finding it nearly impossible to express any longer, through this limited left brain activity of typed words, thoughts regarding such a right brain instrument. That, after all, is what I love most about the Native American Flute. A good one, no matter how it's made, can free us from the dominance of the left brain (the disease it seems of Western "Civilization") and remind us of "mitakuye oyasin", that we are all related, not only with all people of all other cultures, but with all of the community of life as well. (And with every flute ever made.) My opinions now, I've realized, are best conveyed either through flute playing or making.

I do want to share, however, a wonderful video clip a friend of mine recently sent to me. It's a lecture Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain scientist, gave regarding her own experience when she realized she was having a stroke. It is truly inspirational as well as educational and I think probably harmonizes with the spiritual understanding of most on this list:

Lots of food for thought there. Amazing stuff. A really neat explanation for me of what happens during meditation and when we "tap into" the collective consciousness especially during healing sessions.

It is interesting to read the comments by people under the video all written yesterday - so this is very new viewing. Some highly critical and some some positive. Many to me have missed the point of what she was illustrating.

This definitely is a not to miss viewing and worth reviewing as we remind ourselves of how incredibly complex our brain is and how it's dualistic behaviour impacts upon our every day lives.

As a teacher I found it enormously enlightening and provocative with huge implications for understanding how a right brain dominant kid may perceive the world and how people with brain dysfunctions are struggling to cope with our very linear, left brain world.

Watch this movie if for nothing else but to see the brain in action described by an erudite scientist.
