As discussed a few weeks ago on Julie’s (Hopeful Soul’s) healing requests thread, a few of us have become interested in learning more about Magnesium Therapy, with an emphasis on transdermal application. I’ve been reading more about the many illnesses that are either caused or significantly influenced by a magnesium deficiency, including such varied diseases and issues as fibromyalgia, neuropathy, cancer, diabetes, high-blood pressure, pain, and depression, among many, many others. With the use of magnesium oil, I’ve also experienced a firsthand reduction in nagging back and neck pain that had not really been helped with my husband’s best QT efforts.

While taking magnesium supplements is always an option, the disadvantage of taking magnesium orally is that it can have a laxative effect that can limit the amount which can be taken in this manner. Transdermal application, acomplished through various mathods of application can also be subject to this same problem, but usually at higher dosages, so that most people are able to intake more magnesium by absorbing it through their skin.

From the back cover of Transdermal Magnesium Therapy by Mark Sircus, O.M.D.
  • When we’re deficient in magnesium over 300 enzymes in our body are unable to function properly.
  • Magnesium deficiency has been scientifically identified as a critical factor in the onset of a wide variety of diseases, from heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, inflammation and stroke, to Alzheimer’s, autism, cancer, and many more.
  • For various reasons, and to varying degree, two-thirds or more of the population is magnesium deficient.
  • Traditional (allopathic) medical protocols currently do not factor magnesium deficiency or replenishment into standard treatment strategies.
  • As medicine is currently practiced, Americans today are living longer, but are also living longer with chronic disease, yet scientific studies have confirmed that many chronic diseases respond positively to magnesium replenishment.

I've included a number of links below for you to look at for your convenience. As with anything, please do your own research to decide if taking more magneium is something you want to pursue. The one contraindication I’m aware of is compromised kidney function, so please keep that in mind.

I would like to clarify that I have no association whatsoever with the companies I’ve listed as providers of magnesium oil. I’ve purchased from health-and-wisdom.com, and would recommend them as having both excellent prices and great customer service, but have not purchased any of the other brands/types of magnesium oil, so I can’t comment on any of the other vendors or products.

Denise, thanks for putting this up. I can really use it; I don't take my magnesium because I'm sick of so many capsules! You really have a lot of info on here; you must have done a lot of research! I'm really glad you shared it!

Thanks, Tweasel Oak. I appreciate your making this comment.

I hope this info helps someone. I have to tell you though, that the magnesium oil isn't perfect. It can sting a little when you put it on, and it can be a little messy. But I think there can be huge benefits for some people from using it on a regular basis, and I hope you're one of those.

All the best,

Denise

Hi Denise,

Thanks very much for your very informative post about Magnesium. It's very good !
I very much appreciate all the research you must have put into it ! Smiler

I have a bottle of the magnesium oil and they told me it was best to put it on just before going to bed for it is best absorbed by the body at night as with many other extra minerals. This last info comes from my Electro acupuncturist.

Is it ok for me to put this, Magnesium and Cancer ,Magnesium Dosage at the cancer tips and insights plus a direction to the whole post?

Hi Pinky,

Sorry I didn't get back to you until now. My sister was visiting, and I haven't spent much time on the forum. Of course, you are more than welcome to put links to this thread over on the discussion of cancer and tip and insights. I would love to think this info might help someone.

But I also have done a little more resarch and here are a couple of more links specifically about cancer:

Thanks for all the info you put together, too. I know people really appreciate it!

xxoo,

Denise

One suggestion might be to put it on the soles of the feet . . . it is absorbed the same but shouldn't sting.

I was reading from the link called "Transderman Magnesium Therapy", which is the 2nd group of links Denise provided called "Articles". There was mention that some people take Epsom Salts as a Magnesium supelment because it contains Magnesium Sulfate, but is rapidly extreted through the kidneys and therefore difficult to assimilate.
I am curious if an Epsom salt (or some other cheap off the shelf item containing magnesium) bath might be better assimilated by the body, or not extreted through the kidneys. Would anyone know about this?

Re: I am curious

I did read in one of the articles that answers your question. But darn it I cant remember which one!

Just for interest sake, I took some Epsom Salts yesterday just a couple of sips 1/2 tsp in a glass of water, and I could instantly feel my body go YIPEE!
I am not condoning the use of Epsom salts internally this is just my experience.

I had the same physical sensation when I first started taking liquid Selinium.

I am thinking that if a physical body responds in such a manner then what ever has been ingested is welcome... just not sure of what dosage to take for maintenance etc. Though I have downloaded doc www.magnesiumforlife.com/dosage.shtml.
Anyway; no doubt I will find out if I am deficient tomorrow when I get my hair analysis back. Smiler

Hi,

If you are worried about taking Magnesium supplements there is always the alternative of Homeopathic Tissue Salts (NEW ERA produces them)
You can get various remedies like Magnesium with Calcium, Magnesium with Phospherous etc.
They are pleasant and easy to take, simply dissolve appropriate number on your tongue.

I have been taking various Tissue Salts for the past month and have found them to be very effective.
The key to success is to be consistent in their use.

Hi there all!

I do remember, by the time I was exercising @ a prof level that magnesium is a very essential mineral.
I read this topic in a glimps, but remembering magnesium is it to prevent muscle cramps, which mostly appears while sleeping.

Also can remember that magnesium works beter with vitamine D and D works better with calcium. Calcium and fat (sorry for my english... Roll Eyes ) do work as a laxatate.
But.. a banana contains also magnesium... (hint?) although not in that high dosis, I gues.

---------

But I also do remember (as a beautician)... and thats where I put my question marks:
The skin isnt able to absorb magnesium in such high dosis...
(correct me when I'm wrong)
Its a mineral which is in our sweat, but the skin isnt able to absorb it like it can absorb the vitamins which can be solved in fat, like vitamin A and D.

Maybe Im totally wrong as I didnt have the time yet to follow all the links. In that case I take my words back.

The only way I know that the skin can take more magnesium than it can by the natural skin-/ cellular proces of osmosis is to force the skin taking the magnesium ions through an Iontophoresis proces.

------

Correct me when I'm wrong or when I'm writing to long.

Take care 4 now, bless u aal, with love
