Friends--I received this email as a member of the Native american Flutecircle Listserv, which I have belonged to for many years. It's about a set of 2 CDs for sale that are just awesome...I am NOT selling these, so don't get your knickers in a knot! There is a link in the email that will allow you to hear 12 tracks, spoken words with some musical background. Much of it is about RESONANCE, but presented in the most beautiful, moving, and understandable terms I have ever heard. You can listen to these tracks just by clicking on them, and for you in the healing community, I hope you will take the time to listen.

This is about music and musicians, at least on the surface, but it goes WAY deeper than that. But if you are in the music profession or play any instrument or just like to listen to music, this is for you. For those of you in Quantum Touch, you will "get it" right away!! There have been many instances where my various Circles have intersected & overlapped, and this is certainly one prime example. Many in the NA Flute community are on spiritual and healing paths.

I am writing to folks in the NAF community about a new audio release:
The Listening Book and The Musical Life, by W. A. Mathieu.

The Listening Book was a landmark exploration of the world of sound and music
when it was released in 1991, opening the ears and mind of tens of thousands
of music students to a wider horizon of sound and listening.

I purchased the book and was captured by it's approach to music and
listening. In 2004, I managed to get a copy of the audio cassette edition of
The Listening Book from England and listened to it a dozen times.
I was enriched by the words but a bit sad that this great material
was not available to a wider audience.

The philosophy and exercises are so organic and in tune with the approach
that many of us take with the NAF.

Last year the stars came into alignment. I was able to get in touch with
the author, who was able to locate the master tapes and purchase the rights
to reissue The Listening Book (yes, he had to purchase his own material).
He also recorded an additional segment reading from his second book,
The Musical Life.

November 11th is the official release date for the 2-CD set of
The Listening Book and The Musical Life. However, advance copies should be
available for puchase within a week.

My response:

I am an infrequent contributor to this forum, but today, I cannot pass the opportunity to add my two cents about The Listening Book. Thank you, Mr. Goss, for making the audio tracks available. They are magnificent, awesome, so moving...and I have placed my order.

When I was 13 (72 now) while at a summer camp in a beautiful location in the Ozarks, a minister from the nearest town came out to us for Sunday services, and instead of speaking about a Biblical or Christian subject, he chose to speak about LISTENING. There were long periods of silence in that sermon, and we were located on a high promontory atop a mountain. It was the loudest silence! It's amazing, what you hear, if you really, really, listen.

The wisdom, philosophy, and the physical location all came together for me that morning, and my life was changed. My friends & family all believe that my sense of hearing is extraordinary, because I do hear things that others around me do not. I hear sirens, for instance, a full minute or two before anyone else hears them......but my hearing, tested, is only normal average. But I have practiced listening, actively and with intent, all my life since that day.

The consequences have gone into my choice of career, (primary & secondary, ) into my music, into my spiritual path, and my choice of friends. Resonance is everywhere, in everything....and in my current endeavors in energy medicine, (teaching & practicing,) resonance is all. Resonance is way larger than the mere physical. So these audio tracks, and especially the one on Resonance, moved me to my core, back again to age 13, sitting on that mountain, listening to the Universe.

I am stunned at the beauty presented in those tracks! I took notes, stopping the audio and writing, then re-starting the audio again. I am doing a lecture-demo on my healing work to the MN. Theosophical Society next week, in the room where I sat and played flutes for 11 years, my favorite place in the world to play flutes. It's a circular sanctuary with a large dome, & the acoustics are perfect...so I intend to take a flute with me for that demo. Much of what healing is about is resonance and entrainment.
