Hello Cherry-

In my experience, (mental health worker for 28 years, Crisis Worker Level 2)and performing bodywork since 1993, QT for approx. 4, I have found that there are many factors that play into mental health-

Here are 2 completely different aspects that come into play and there are many many more-

1. MANY folks with mental health issues have suffered from an emotional or physical traumatic experience in their childhood, that they were unable to cognitively process and release at that time-

2. Many mental health drugs cause constipation as a side effect- and now science is finding that up to 70% of our serotonin is produced in the bowel-

When I have worked with folks with a diagnosis of PMI (Persistent Mental Illness)I have stressed how important water intake is to keep the bowels healthy and functioning well-

On the bodywork piece there are a couple of ways to approach a session-

For instance my husband Darril was clinically diagnosed with depression in his early 20's and took prescription medications on and off with not much success-

He finally went to a naturopathic doctor who muscle tested dowsed that the original cause occurred at age 6 in April-

He then asked Darril what happened to him then-

At first Darril said he couldn't remember- and then suddenly his eyes widened-

That was his age and the month that his father abandoned his family-

I had the great priveledge of witnessing that session-

The moment he became cognitively aware of why he was depressed his face lit up and a "heaviness/hardness" lifted from his face and he laughed-

His depression symptoms began decreasing and 6 months later he had minimal symptoms-

Now 2 years later he and I agree he has 0 symptoms-

Before he would get depressed and watch TV for 3 days in a dark room and be unresponsive to me, lost jobs due to anger issues etc. (all around his feeling that he was not being treated fairly)

Another approach is If the person brings it up, treat it like chasing the pain....difference is you are chasing emotional pain...

Really the same questions-where in your body do you feel the symptoms? Then run energy to those areas-Did the pain move etc.

I also believe that running energy is VERY HEALING for a person-encourage them to take a workshop. Mental health can turn into a "lifestyle" and can become a self-fufilling prophecy-

In conclusion I would like to mention that if a person is coming to you for 1 time, and does not have a support system for dealing with the emotions and realizations that will occur as the person begins to heal-it is sometimes not in that person's greater interest to begin opening a can of worms that that may increase their symptoms during a healing crisis period of time-

The person must have an emotional and mental support network in place-particularly if that person is dealing with schizophrenia or manic depression, depression issues-

P.S. Autism is different, run energy to the brain and give deep percussive touch (squeezing hugging tightly) Temple Grandin (Very articulate Autistic woman) has written a number of totally awesome books on autism and animals....

Hope this info. is useful-

May you experience many blessings in your upcoming workshop-

Nancy,
Thanks for the information. Its sound advise. The bowel is responsible for all nutrients and mineral absorbtion. This mainly takes place in the small bowel on the right side of the abdomen. If the body can't absorb the minerals and things that the mind needs to heal, it doesn't heal or correct imbalances. Also it is very true that emotional pain is the start of all physical pain.
How are you? I have been very busy trying to build (finish projects) greenhouse, clean up around the property inside and out. Things are coming together. In communicating with people, alot of proof that I have experience in solar, gardening, sustainable living etc. is being required. The best way to prove is by doing so here! Quite a challenge.
Hope all is going well for ya.
Take care
M.

Wow, I just had something 'click' inside...Im a 46yr. female who has been suffering from chronic constipation and a very bad GI system. I have also been suffereing from 'sadness' most of my life and bouts of depression. When I was around 7yrs. I was sexually molested as well as my family splitting up. Very tramatic time for me. It felt like I was living in constant fear and also being nervous. I hold lots of this emotion inside. When I read that 70% of serotonin is produce in the bowel...I had my light bulb moment,,now I can redirect the energy..thanks so much

Will I just know...
