Does anyone know what causes the skin on the heals to become hard and crack? It seems to be a common problem here.

Cheers,

If the skin on the heels is thickened and calloused, the outermost layers of that skin don't get much or any blood supply from the circulation. Essentially it is dead tissue, so it dries out, shrinks, and cracks. Kind of like the bottom of a dried-up pond that crazes and cracks as moisture evaporates.

Gently getting rid of the old skin with a pumice stone can help. Do it after a bath or a good foot-soaking. Moistureizers and creams that are "water-loving" can help too. Once dead skin cracks like that, it is very slow or impossible to heal, because there is no blood supply. Inflammation and/or infection can take up residence, too.

Try working on it slowly....it's the kind of thing that needs some time. SOAK in warm water with a capful of dish detergent added. Combine your soaking, pumicing, & lotions with the "good stuff" from Quantum Touch. I'd bet money that pretty soon you'll have a big improvement. Good luck.

Advice from an old nurse, ha ha ha.

Season's Greetings All!

It seems many of us have been doomed with dry, cracked heels. I did the following which cured them for good:

Carefully sand all the old dry skin off (your feet should be dry, don't soak them) with a piece of cheap 150 grit sandpaper or a fancy heel sanding stick - I find pumice doesn't work as well.

Once sanded, soak your feet and get your heels nice and clean. Then rub in olive oil or coconut oil and put on a pair of clean dry socks.

Repeat above sanding, soaking and oiling as needed to keep your heels in great shape.

Also, take the supplement Hyaluronic Acid - it rehydrates the skin (all over your body!)

This worked like a charm for me, hope it helps!

If I am remembering accurately, Richard had a client whose calluses fell off after a treatment (from the book) ..... seems as if Q-T could work.
