I was doing chair massage at a convention today and offered a woman with MS some Quantum Touch energy healing to help alleviate her pain. I only ran the energy for a little while (about 10-15 minutes) to see if she found it helpful.
She told me she that I should have told her I was going to give her "heat therapy" because her body can't handle the heat. I tried to explain that it wasn't heat therapy, it was "healing energy" that the body sometimes experience as heat. And that the body would use it to help her heal... I've had people experience this as "heat" pretty often but never in the way that they were admonishing me about its effects. Any advice on what might have happened and how I could have handled it better? Maribeth D |

TMaribeth, they perceive sensations that we think are "normal," in abnormal ways, many times....nerves and nerve junctions (myoneural junctions) are not physiologically "normal." Acetylcholine - cholinesterase cascades are chemically abnormal. She probably did experience something that felt like "heat" to her. If you could help her to realize that there was no heat involved whatsoever, and that her perception of sensations is a manifestation of her illness, that might make it a bit easier for her.
I assume the sensation was temporary. If another word could be used to describe the sensation, that might help too. "Gentle warmth" or "sensation of energy moving" or ask her if there is another word she could use instead of "heat," since heat is not there. If you keep using the word "heat," it can help that to manifest. But MS patients do have paresthesias and other abnormal responses to ordinary stimuli. Good luck on working through it. I think it's one of the issues that may require a series of sessions to change. Another path is to offer her visualizations of cooling breeze, visual images of snow or winter scenes, without applying any cold to the body. Just offer images, in words or pictures, or scenes seen in "the mind's eye," and images can surely change perceptions. I understand that this was a cafe session at a convention, so you may not see this person again, but for others with MS whom you may encounter, the biggie to remember is that they perceive normal sensations abnormally. Thanks, Alice. Your feedback was incredibly helpful. We exchanged contact information today and talked a little more about the experience. She said the feeling of heat did not persist and she said that it actually felt good. I think she got scared...
If I get a chance to work on her again, we'll be able to have a useful conversation about what happened. Take care, Maribeth Maribeth D |

HI,
Ali, very important tip, thanks.
Maribeth, fear of changes appears in my experience quite often when cronical or long term illness is involved. So QT for emotional healing is good to offer. With Love Jelena |

Jelena,
I called her and left a message about continuing the work. If we decide to work together, that's a good recommendation for me. Thanks, maribeth Maribeth D |
