My husband and I are working on his boss who was just diagnosed. The boss is not so into this stuff so we have not told him and are not really on the inside loop of his therapy. Last night we just worked on his blood, specifically the damaged/cancerous blood cells. Today they are starting the therapy breaking down his system and I am honestly not sure what to focus on in our sessions. Any ideas?

sounds a bit inappropriate to me to work on someone without his knowledge.

Part of the role of providing healthcare is to respect peoples choices also if you don't agree.

This means to me that if I offer help and they refuse and choose a dangerous chemo/operation instead there is really nothing I can do .. and that can be hard, very hard, especially if they die.

And so goes the debate: Is permission needed or not? There are many opinions on this and at least a couple of very long and heated threads.

What Irene would like to know is what the session focus should be to facilitate healing leukemia.

I've no experience with leukemia but I think I'd work on the bone marrow to multiply the healthy blood cells rather than put my focus on damaged cells -- unless they're being repaired or cleaned or something like that.

Thanks to those of you who replied both publically and privately. I guess I feel pretty silly since it never occurred to me that this would be unethical. In the class I took, we were told that it would be fine to work on people whether they knew or not for two reasons: (1) we could not hurt them or cause them trouble and (2) it would work whether they believed or not. Once we covered that, I guess I never gave it much more thought.

I guess for me it felt like standing over a man hanging off a cliff. In his panic or general inability to see, he does not notice me. Do I help or not as he has not asked.

I'll contact this guy and ask him if he wants my help. If he declines, I will not continue.

Sorry to have upset so many people.

Irene, you shouldn't feel that you have upset anybody. I think you're going to handle this fine. What you may find is that although we have the capacity to help somebody, the person may not be ready to heal. Since their life, and death, is a part of their journey, it's always good to get permission whenever possible.

When it isn't possible to get permission first, then offer (not send) the energy for the greatest possible good for the person in question. If it isn't in the person's best interest to receive the energy, they won't.
