Hello Everybody -- I was thinking about posting an obituary for the Chat...."It is with great sadness that I announce the passage of QT Chat...." because with a few wonderful and notable exceptions, hardly anyone comes any more.

During the life of the Chat, I've kept a list of countries represented, and amazingly, people from 21 nations have participated in the QT Chat. A community grew up around the chat room, both on the social side and also on the QT Practice and learning side. In early days, we did some meditations with the purpose and intent to raise our vibrations, (rather than dreamy, sleep-producing meditations.) Some of ours turned out to be zingers, including the occasional food fight, ha ha.

Now, because of Richard's Coast To Coast interview, questions are being asked and new folks are discovering the Message Board, so instead of the obituary I was thinking about, I am posting the information about chat for anyone who might be interested in dropping in.

After much debate about what time to meet in Chat, the following times of day seemed to work for the most people:

10 am US Central time
and 9 pm US Central time zone.

How to get there:

Click on GO at top left of Message Board page, then click on Chat, and then on General QT Chat.

The rooms are open & available 24/7, of course, and anyone wishing to set up a meeting with friends is free to do so, and there are three rooms provided for your chatting and meditating pleasure. The General QT chat is where we have been meeting for lo these many years now. You will need to establish an ID for the chat, because its server is outside of QT--It is operated by Groupee. It is easy to do, just hit the Sign In /Join button and go.

All "old" and "new" chatters are welcome. You won't always find someone there, but hang in, wait a few minutes (I wait 20 minutes most times) and see who turns up. The largest group in chat, to my knowledge, was 26, and attendance varies, of course.

For the Coast listeners who are discovering us, it is a good way to make your acquaintance, ask questions, etc. It is very often the case that the "old" chatters learn from the new ones, so this is definitely a two-way deal, no bosses or moderators, no special qualifications, no level of expertise or knowledge needed, and there are no stupid questions.

So just Come, Y'all. You "oldies" too...You know who you are! Smiler

Love to all.

I agree with Ali, the chat room was great!
Once, on a sunday afternoon, about 3 years back we had people from 9 or 10 countries, I don't remeber exactly how many.

Bye

I see a problem not only with chat room, but with the Message Board as a whole.

Last post-practtioners forum:march 4
Last post-instructors forum: march 6

So, I think people lost interest ...and it was reflected also on the chat room.
Pity...

"This Chat Room does not allow guest access. You must login to access this Chat feature"

Perhaps this is the reason the chat room has died. I have been trying gain access for the past 2 weeks, and keep getting this message.
I'm am Insructor for Gods sake!

Access doesn't have anything to do with being an Instructor or Practitioner. Are you logged in to the message board (Eve)?

I went to the chat room about 10 this morning (first time), was not given the opportunity to log in, and showed as a guest. Appeared to be the only one there.

Hope this helps.

Once you have logged into the website you can go to the chat room. The word guests or visitors is to indicate how many people are there. Then you enter your discussion.

There used to be just one chat space and then people wanted more specific areas to talk on certain topics. Likely this has contributed to the lack of finding anyone in one specific chat room. I like the idea of more specifics for chats. Beyond this there just used to be a lot of questions around a lot of issues. I think a lot of what people used to talk about is now covered in the topics area.

Some people have enjoyed setting times and then getting together to chat on the message board chat room, especially if there was a general time set up where there was actually going to be someone there to do some chatting. Likely a moderator or someone deciding to run with the ball is necessary to re-awaken interest here.

I drop in very occasionally as a lot of the prearranged times were weekends when I have been gone. If it gets reorganized I'll try dropping in again, when I can, I have always enjoyed the conversations when I have been present. Smiler

Hi guys,
Thank you for the CPR for our Chat Rooms, Ali!
They are a great boon to connect with other QTers.

Also a great way to practice real-time distance QT and get immediate feedback!

I must admit it's been a while since I've had the spare time and not been spent for the day to visit and see who's about. Will try tonight after my session with a client.

Blessings to all and see you in chat!

Alfred

I miss chat. I must say the posted times never work out for me. For one I work most days so I'm not around for the morning one. and I can't stay up that late anymore hehehe.

What I usually do is if I know I'm going to be around for a few minutes and am reading the board. I'll log in even if it's empty. That way if someone else checks they'll see someone and come in.

If no one logs in 'cause it's empty then no one else will join either and it'll just sit there and collect dust. So I say pop in even if it's empty, move the screen to the side and do your other stuff and hopefully someone else'll pop in.

Ven, once you sign out of the chat, you leave no record...that is, your name disappears from the list and nobody will know that you were there. The list is 100% active....it only lists people who are present.

The times of day were chosen by vote way back when, votes from all who were interested in meeting as a group. Those times are:

10 am Central and 9 pm Central US Time.

As I said, the rooms are open & available 24/7, so anyone can use them at any time, but your chances of just finding someone there at random times is small. If those times don't work for you, make your own schedule, the room is not used for approximately 22 hours a day.

If you want to host a group or lead a meditation in the chat, you'd need to post a notice on the Message Board for people to know about it, but the rooms are open & available to all.

To sign into chat, first go to the message board, sign in, then click the GO button on left side of the page, and then on Chat Rooms on the little drop-down menu.

On the page that comes up, on upper right side, is a login place. ANYONE can log in, it is not restricted in any way. The Practitioner and Instructor Forums on the main message board ARE restricted, but NOTHING on the chat is in any way exclusive, limited, or restricted. When you leave the Message Board and go to the chat page, you are no longer in Quantum Touch....you have moved to Groupee, who owns the servers that host the chat. QT contracts with Groupee to host that function. Since it is not a QT page, that is the reason why you need a separate identity and password just for the chat---it's a different site altogether with a different owner. If it's your first time visiting chat, it will ask you to establish a screen name & password. Until you do so, you won't be able to enter. It takes only seconds to do.

There are 3 rooms, but the only one that is used with any regularity at all is the top one listed, the General QT Chat Room.

As Alain said, the other two rooms were requested long time ago for special purpose use, by anyone, but in truth they were never utilized very much. But they are there and available for you all.

I have bookmarked the chat page in my browser, so when I go there, I don't need to go thru the message board link at all.....and you could do the same. I just click the Chat Room link in my bookmarks and Voila! I am there. I just stay signed in and do not "log out" at the end of a chat session.

When you enter the room, you'll see a list of names, people already present. No names, nobody is home. Your name should appear on the list too, of course. The names are listen in order of arrival.

We are still meeting most days & evenings in chat, although in smaller numbers. A new person came in last evening, very nice to see. If I am the only person there, I wait for 20-25 minutes, usually either reading the message board or playing a game on Pogo, and then I leave. If/when someone enters the room while I'm waiting, Great!! We talk. I know that others do the same thing. I figure if nobody comes in that length of time, they aren't coming, so I move on.

There have been people from 21 nations in the chat that I have listed, and often we have an international group, mostly in the evening chat time slot. It's wonderful!

At times, people do report that they are having trouble getting into chat. If that happens to you, the best way to deal with it is to let Jennifer know in the QT office, so she can alert the Groupee folks, since it is their site. Then, PLEASE, keep trying!

I am usually there, but not always. Certainly I am not the boss or moderator of the chat. I just tend to show up, lol. There is no moderator, no monitors, it's just an open public chat, and hopefully it will be occupied by folks with the common interest of QT and healing, but you know there is also social chat among a group of friends. Everyone is welcome. Zeneagle very early on gave us the name of The Fambly, and it has stuck and we love it.

If this helps anyone figure it out, then I am happy. If someone comes with QT questions, or would like a distant session, or needs a good "ear," or just wants to yak....DO IT.

Y'all come! Love to all.

Well Ali, I think we should schedule times for live Basic/intermediate, SC, and Core sessions/circles. One person who's been through training for whatever type of QT is scheduled would need to be on call for the hour (wait 10 minutes, and if no one shows up then split). Then folks can show up either to practice on or receive from the on call person, or team up to offer healing elsewhere. Or, if two or more people show up, it could be a healing circle.

It wouldn't even have to be as regimented as that: we can just have and advertise a couple of "QT happy hours" to trade distant healing and practice techniques on one another. Perhaps a post to the healing stories, new to qt and general discussion letting folks know? What do folks think?

Alfred, that sounds a wonderful idea. But what of those who want to learn more, yet have no idea what more is, wander into chat 1 2 3 and are lost?

I would volunteer to take a chat, but don't belong anymore. sorry.

I joined up in 2004. It was another two years before i discovered the chat room and talk to someone. From my experience i would say it can be a bit too obscure to invite new people into the room. A re positioning of the chat room access button onto the forum bar could make it potentially more inviting to new people.

What Zen said about being lost; well, that was my experience at the start. I have grown use to how the forum functions, but it has not been intuitive for me in the past. I now understand that names at the top of the general index of the QT forum screen to be people logged into the forum, rather than the names of people in the chat room. Before i managed to find someone in the room, i had no idea how chat rooms work, and was puzzled about the whole thing. It took several months before i accidentally found someone in there, and then understand it. I think that chat room attendance can help grow the community and advancement of people involved in QT practice, or learning. I wonder if it is possible to have say a one minute ticker that updates how many people are in the chat room.

One other idea i would like to put forth is a separate forum area for posting times and discussion about the chat rooms. We have half of the practitioners outside of the US. That leads me to think that there may be a potential for near round the clock healing circles. Of course, it can the other things like meditation/ learning / happy hour, etc. I dont know if this is possible in this forum, but many other forums have "sticky notes", where really important information about that section is usually posted for new comers to access. I can see that might be helpful if a separate area of forum was created for posting about chat room.
