Norman, But, but, but.... My green goo tastes good!! Nice book review though.
Zen, the uncookbook sounds like a great idea though I don't know how I can taste things waaaay off in this corner of the country. I do have a couple of really great green smoothie recipes that I've perfected; surely more are on the way. Good Morning, Fab Food Four!
I have begun spasmodically to eat in the same manner as Cris does. I LOVE IT! I have had one full day, and one morning, then have had to shop for more foods. Farmers Markets, here I come! The above is all that I have had, yet found I felt better, thought more clearly, didn't crave anything! (Miracles happen, ya know?) I had no swelling or edema at all, it just felt so good. More to the point, my parrots are eating and thriving on the same goo. They love it! One is quite picky, has her taster go for it first. Honker just dives in, up to his beak in gooey glee. Her Highness, Gus, has realized that her tasters survived, now asks in am for "Green Goo". Both birds feathers began to shine, they were more calm, more able to adjust to situations that arose quickly, and so was I. The three of us fight to the bloody last drop, there is no flinging of foods. (I have a marvelous Pollock behind Gussies cage.) All of us were sleepy at the correct time, we ate what we should-baby spinach and mangoes- for their lunch, I added mushed meat, but not for mine. Again, up to the beak and try not to drown. I added water (filtered) to the vitamix when I made our meals, thereby eating and drinking well. No burping by any of us, feathered or not. This is a great boon, not having to cook their meals or see that they get .... Lets go for it! zen "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without words and never stops at all" Love ya fambly |

Hi, Guys -
I think that to do raw food 100% is very expensive and time-consuming, and I love too many cooked foods to totally give them up anyway - however, to do a blenderful of green smoothie or green soups or puddings for one meal and/or snacks every day is easy and not particularly expensive. (And I agree with Cris, they taste good - at least the ones I make - and if yours doesn't taste good, change the recipe!) The Raw Gourmet by Nomi Shannon is another book that I have. I've not used it yet but the pictures are yummy! It seems a good basic un-cook book. There are recipes, of course, and lots of information as well.

Hi fab Four, we are winging it (thanks Jana) as we have not yet received the books from this site, or amazon, as yet.
If you could only see Honker and I guzzling, as the Queen watches to see if we survive, then dives in. Silly bird, she wont get her share if she doesn't guzzle faster. Love the foo/goo and am fast becoming known as the "Swamp Thang" with the vets that I yammer at. Oh well. WE like it. zeneagle "Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without words and never stops at all" Love ya fambly |

Hello everyone, I am going to hop in here for a moment as this is one topic that I just love! I have been 98-100% raw foods for 2 1/2 years now after discovering David Wolfe and Gabrial Cousins. I recommend David's book "The Sunfood Diet Success System", Frederic Patenaude's "Sunfood Cuisine" and Gabrial's "Rainbow Green Live Food Cuisine"....they all have fun recipes in them.
I went on a raw food diet to help me detoxify my system spiritually, emotionally, mentally, and physically after praying for healing and being led to this lifestyle. Is it for everyone? Probably not, but I know that it is for me. Another thing that I do is fast and was introduced to this by Dr. Braggs. His and his daughter's book "The Miracle of Fasting" has been a God send to me. I am fasting now and it is incredible! It is a way of life for me now. Wishing everyone here the best in adventures in discovering the "Raw".....going back to simplicity! It is fun! Something that I try to live by! Bless all. Tracey Anne |

Well, I tried Cris' swamp goo recipe...the pear and spinach...all I can say is "YUM". And all the kids could say was "MORE". What a great way to start the day, and to sneak in those foods that the kids normally wouldn't eat served with dinner, and cooked!
I kept getting drawn back to this topic, and oh so glad I tried it. Have a very blessed day Jen |

Now I have a variation of the green swamp goo for ya', but I call it swamp mud! Pear, banana, blueberry, spinach. Ugly, but tasty, and again, kids asking for "more!"
Love and blessings Jen |

Fill your blender to about the 4 cup level with fruit, quartered or whatever. Add about a cup of water. Liquefy. Add one quart gently packed green, pushing down into the blended fruit. Liquefy again. Add greens and water to achieve the consistency you like. Liquefy again. Makes about one quart. I've gotten to the point where I go the produce market on the weekend and by the end of the week, I'm putting together whatever's left in the fridge and seems to go together. Most turn out well. Jana,
This morning, I was just winging it. I added 1 pear, 2 bananas, about 1-1.5 cups frozen blueberries, and 1 cup of water. I blended that up real good, and then added about 4 cups of the spinach. Like I said..looks ugly, but tastes good. I can't wait to try some new combinations. Happy blending Jen |

Hi - again reiterating what I have already posted somewhere some time ago, my husband and I have started our day with a fruit smoothie avery day for the last 15 years. Cubed any fruit, ice cubes and a little fruit juice to make blending go better. Never used the spinach though but will definitely give the baby spinach we get here a try for a lunch time one. Fruit alone, for breakfast, is known to clear out the digestive tract, be easily absorbed into the system and gives you an instant energy boost which lasts until lunchtime. We do have a huge glass and a half of it though. I believe it is directly related to the easy time we both have with keeping our weight down and to the general good health we both enjoy plus it definitely improves skin tone and quality. It is an easy, fast breakfast and the fruit can be cut up in literally five minutes. A Vitamix blender is definitely the way to go as ours has done us proud - just had to once replace the mechanism to turn the blade - It has real strong motor. Probably the best investment we have made in the culinary department. I have also taken to freezing cut up fruit to add to the smoothis instead of the ice cubes. I freeze grapes, mango and banana chunks - (you can make ice cream from frozen banana chunks apparently)
Another thing I want to try is nut milk - almonds and water. I try and eat nuts every day and sunflower seeds. Have any of you used sprouts in your green goo. They are very easy to grow and a fantastic source of enzymes - I haven't tried but I will do so. Anway that's my two cents. Will buy some spinach today!!! Love wendy "Expect miracles" |

Wendy - Almond milk is really tasty!! AND great idea about freezing fruit chucks for adding later!!! Great tip.
I tried swamp mud this morning. It tasted wonderful! Even my hubby liked it. But - I was starving (to the point of having a headache) in a couple of hours... |
