Got another good one for ya', though I must say it did leave me hungry in a couple of hours.
1 pear, 1/4 of a pineapple, 1.5 c frozen blueberries, 1 medium carrot, and 1 c. spinach...then water to smooth the texture to your liking. My 2 yr old didn't even stop to talk. He drank the whole thing, and then asked for more. I suppose if I actually drank the whole amount, vs. sharing it around the family, I wouldn't be hungry in a couple of hours...but what fun is that! I'll have to try some shakes in the morning. I do worry about getting hungry for lunch to early at work, since we're working physically all day.
Also I need a bit of protein in the morning, I never feel so great without it. Maybe I'll just have a handful of nuts to help out. It would be nice to have a quick meal for breakfast. A quick note on 'Raw Food's only, I tried this for 6 wks a few years back, and I was tired, puffy and gained 4 lbs. hahahah needless to say I wasn't too thrilled with this. I think Balance is definitely needed and not all diets or food plans work for each person. My dad he feels great when he does those kind of eating plans, me not so much. I do want to add more greens and green drinks though, thanks for the inspiration. Ven |

Hi, Venice!
One thing you might try in your smoothie if you need protien and don't have any unusual estrogen prohibitions is tofu - it is protein, and is practically tasteless. It is also good cubed in salads becasue it takes on the flavor of the dressing... Just a thought |

Green smoothies aren't just for meal replacement. I drink mine throughout the day. I tend to eat less throughout the day as well.

I did notice that though I was hungry a couple of hours later, I was not hungry again until dinner. I did snack on some dried fruit and pumpkin seeds at what would have been lunch time. And have also noticed that when I start my day with the smoothie, I tend to want to eat more healthy things during the day, too. It has been interesting, and the family is loving it.

Ring the bells that still can ring Forget your perfect offering There is a crack, a crack in everything That’s how the light gets in. (From Anthem, Leonard Cohen) |
Well I found a wonderful raw salad at my local grocers but it would be easy to replicate. I have never had raw butternut squash or any raw squash for that matter and was surprised at how sweet and crunchy and satisfying it was! Hope you like this one!
1 small butternut squash, peeled seeded and cut into sticks. (All other vegetables also cut into stick shape.) 1 or 2 zucchini 1 large red pepper 1 or 2 fennel bulbs 1 or 1/2 large red onion. (I would cut this into thin rings and slit open on one end.) Optional, if you would like to add a little protein, add some crumbled feta or goat cheese. Add your favorite vinegrette dressing or just salt and pepper and toss. (I found this recipe great rolled up in Vietnamese rice paper wraps, (dip 2 rice papers in warm water and then roll up veggies) roll up like a burrito, then you can dip into your favorite vinegrette dressing or vegetable dip.) |

Well fellow foodies, I have an update.
I finally decided to give it a shot. No, I am not giving up meat yet, but I have been working up to the point I am mostly raw. Here is what I have been doing: First thing in the morning - Jump Juice I strongly suggest you give this a try. Then I do a fruit smoothie for breakfast, recipe varies depending on what I have on hand. This morning it was: 1 apple 1 asian pear 1 banana small handful of blueberries teaspoon of fresh ginger handfull of shredded cabbage filtered and charged water I have found that I really like adding in the ginger - it perks things up and has become my staple ingredient with fruit smoothies. Lunch today was a piece of poached salmon and a baby greens salad (apple cider vinegar and olive oil dressing) with a sliced plum tomato. Dinner was on the run and so another smoothie, but veg this time, and basically cleaning out my "munchies" bowl. I found that if I have something prepared and available to munch on, that I was more likely to eat that than to go find something less healthy. I have a big bowl with prepped veggies sitting in the fridge with things like: jicama bell peppers squash broccoli carrots celery mushrooms For dinner, I just cleaned out the last of the bowl and through in a chunk of jalapeno, some shredded cabbage, some sea salt, and water to make my dinner smoothie before heading off to the Y for some swimming. I think next time, I will have a little less veg and add some fruit to it. The flavor was a little too intense... too earthy. The jalapeno did help though. Last night I was cold and really wanting some soup, so I raided the munchies bowl, grabbed a chicken breast out of the freezer, added some garlic, onion and jalapeno and enjoyed a nice bowl of chicken veg soup. Creating the munchies bowl was a milestone though. By doing that, I gave myself permission to change my eating habbits. I have fruit on hand as well to munch on like strawberries, oranges, apples, pears, etc. When I went to the store, I made a concious decision to stay in the produce section. This is where giving myself permission to change had the strongest effect. Its only been about two weeks so far... I'll keep you posted. Peace and Love; Norman |

Came accross this page when googling something else. It compare raw food diets to symbiotic eating. It has some very interesting stuff in it. I am not sure how much of it is true, but I am exploring thise whole raw food thing.

Update on my green smoothie/raw food experience:
Though I've been drinking the green smoothies daily, I've not really pursued the raw food thing. I managed to catch a nasty cold a couple of weeks ago, was out of work for 4 days, and had a chance to consider my diet. Thank gawd I've been doing the green smoothies because every other thing I put in my mouth is out of whack. Breakfast is whatever's easiest, lunch is whatever they serve in the cafeteria at work, and dinner is whatever my boyfriend cooks. Though I appreciate everyone else preparing food for me, it's not optimal nutrition. I finally bought the book "12 Steps to Raw Food" by Victoria Boutenko. It arrived last week and I read for a few hours on Friday night, went to the store (the produce department) on Saturday morning, and have eaten everything raw. Forethought and preparation have been my downfall. Raw food doesn't take that much time. It's the transistion that's been difficult. I have most of the equipment but haven't kept the staples in the house. That's my challenge. I've named it; now I can overcome it. I have support. My boyfriend eats what I prepare, will prepare something if I want it, or we'll do it together (that's my favorite So here I am, giving it another push. This time, my incentive was the nasty cold that I caught. I don't do colds, or flu, or sickness well. :-/ It was a reminder and forced me to stop and think about priorities. Food is our fuel. Poor fuel, poor performance. Good fuel, good performance. AND the 12-step book says with a raw food diet, I'll need 2 or 3 hours less sleep every night. YAY! I've just found all the extra time I've been looking for!! Thanks for listening to my ramblings. My blood pressure has been hovering between 130 - 120 since I started taking medication for it my last annual physical, July or August, I think. My pulse rate has been in the 90s. Today, I checked for the first time in two weeks and suddenly my blood pressure is 102/65 with a pulse rate of 68. It's the green smoothies and the raw food. It's got to be. Nothing else has changed and I'm even more stressed than usual. (Budget suddenly due in 3 weeks; staff member needing to be out of work for a month for repeat surgery; finances a little tight with repairs needed, etc.) Raw food is awesome! I've lost 6 pounds without trying and I feel great.
I found a raw food Meetup in my area. They have potluck dinners every month and monthly support groups as well. The organizer is a raw food chef who does personal coaching, 21-day challenges, etc. The support group meets at Whole Foods Market -- what better place to implement your best intentions. I've found I'm beginning to not enjoy some of the cooked foods I used to love. Blueberry muffins are blah. I've been drinking my green smoothie (40% fruit/ 60% greens) for breakfast lately. I don't get hungry until lunchtime. (Of course, lunchtime is 11:30 by company policy.) I drink a quart. Lunch is generally a nut pate/greens wrap with a side of marinated veggies, and a salad or other cut veggies. Soup (veggies blended in the VitaMix with veggie chunks to float) satisfies me for dinner. If I get hungry between, I eat some fruit.
