Sorry if this has been covered.
Scenario - general chat.
you have to go, but there's a serious discussion going on and you don't want to disrupt or interrupt.
It's OK to just leave w/o fanfare and good byes?Or will folks think you're rude?
Christina
But then, it's rude to interrupt!
Catch 22?

Blessings, Love and Laughter, and Big Warm Hugs,

Along with that, if I am involved in the conversation, will I hurt your feelings, or will you feel slighted if I don't say goodbye?

Great topic CPH!!! Needs to be covered.

People may think I'm rude but generally when I leave, I say Bye and why and then get out immediately. It seems odd to me that others do such long drawn out goodbyes. To me, those are disruptive. Short and sweet. "Gotta go -- hugs all around" or some such thing.

My preference is for people to announce that they're leaving and then wait for an acknowledgement, but that's just me. To me, it's a bit like a phone call. It's rare to find someone who says goodbye and then just hangs up without the other person responding, although I do have a friend from India who does that. It's just the way they do it, apparently.

I guess do whatever you feel comfortable with.

I like it when you get a wee bit of warning before someone dashes. That way if you want to tell them something, you have a chance. Sometimes you might have something you want to say to and get distracted with the rest of the chat.

I like to be able to say goodbye.

Thank you all for your responses.
What should be done is now clear as mud to me.
Actually, you've given me a lot to think about.
I think I'll go think about it some more.
