I tried to answer a post re the difficult client thread tonight. I spent an hour composing my reply I WAS LOGGED IN or I would not have been able to access the Post part of the board. A whole hour, it was just what I wanted to say...I pressed the link to preview my post, & was immediately bumped out!

I could not recover my writing, it was gone. Message is "You are not logged in...you have read-only privileges..." I WAS LOGGED IN, DAMMIT, OR ELSE COULD NOT HAVE COMPOSED A POST.

I re-wrote the entire thing, taking nearly another hour. Double-checked, all the boxes were filled in, I am logged in, pressed preview, and again, GONE.

Did it the third time, so now I've spent 3 frickin hours trying to write what is in my heart, in the thread that I myself started. Third time, I am bounced out, I cannot post in my own thread.

I am now crying. When is this going to be fixed????? PLEASE. I am furious, total frustration. It takes a lot to make be bawl, but this has done it.

Just had to reply to you:
I think many of us can empathize with you frustrations, Ali. I've decided to be safe and type an email or document to copy and paste to the msg board when I write something longer. Right now I don't have time (have to work in the morning), or I would reply to numerous msgs and post something of my own.

The last time I posted something that took a long time to compose I believe I got the msg you did. I was feeling a bit emotional about it also. I decided to try to go back to the previous pages, and I found my post after hitting back several times. I was lucky!

Hope this helps someone in the future, and I'm sorry for your experience Ali. Sometimes I think we practically "give birth" to things we write due to the level of involvement/creativity/love, etc, we put into it. Doesn't feel good to lose our "children".

the same exact thing happened to me, i spent 3 different times for and hour typing, and it was gone at the push of a button. it always seems to happen to the big long posts.

So I figured it was not ment to be. I let it go for now. I am working on it at a slower pace in my word proccessor. And when the time comes and its ready then I will post it.

I was frustrated too. because it ment a lot to me as yours did. But again it was not ment to be.

Everyone is going through a growing period, the posts of mine that do go through are the foot in mouth ones.
not the ones right now that are beautiful and good.

The foot in mouth ones for me are my growing posts, that help to sort out the garbage from the truth.

I do hope you get your posts to work I enjoy reading them.

We have a programmer working on fixing the board and hopefully it will be repaired soon. If we move to an entirely new board we would lose all old posts, so we have decided to repair it insead. please hang in there.

Hi Ali, I've lost posts too, that took a while to write. I just have to say, from my experiences talkign to a web-designer friend of mine, that these kind of boards that are constantly being updated are a real technical nightmare and the software can easily go wrong (you'll note I have absolutely no technical know-how or language myself!) I've noticed since the last hacking attack (hackers target sites with this kind of technology because it's a challenge to them!) that I get timed-out, and I think that's the problem here. If it's going to take you a while to write, just get into a word programme and take that time, knowing your precious thoughts won't be lost. We have to appreciate the wonderful opportunity this board gives us all and bear with the hitches, I think. Because it's worked so well for a while you get to expect it to continue, but no message boards get away without being targets for hackers these days, unfortunately!

I see it as a price we pay for the ability to share thoughts and experiences, and I notice whenever I get mad while on the computer, things just get worse and teach me a lesson - stay calm at all times!

Hope you're recovered now - best wishes!
Jane

The word is that they are working on the board now.

Don't let your posts get timed out. Write them on a word processor, on notepad, or as an email and copy it to the board.

hang in there - we'll get this fixed.

Ali, I know it's been a while since your post. However, I wanted to make the suggestion that the next time you have a long post to compose that you open your Word Processing Program, i.e., Microsoft Word or Word Perfect, and compose your post in the Word Processing Program first. Then you can copy it and paste it into the message board. That way you will not lose and have to retype it if it is not accepted by the web site the first time. This is just a suggestion, and I know that this situation can be frustrating when you've put your heart and soul into a response.

Nice suggestion apacherock! I am brand spanking new to this board and am "lurking" this message topic to see what problems/hints others have in hopes that I will from others learn before making silly avoidable mistakes using the board.

Now this trick you have offered, selecting all your reply or message and copying it BEFORE attempting to send the message is a trick I never would have thought of. It is so simple and elegant, and such a proper use of copy/paste to save tears and frustration, that I felt bound to extend my thanks as I know I will start using this technique with ALL my posts/replies.

cheers,
baldguru
