... it seems to be more of a private message board topic than a private e-mail...??? Is it possible to simply send a private message, rather that start some sort of a "private topic"? Am I even reading this correctly in the first place?

Hmmmm.... Just after my first post, I tried going to the user list and doing a private message from there - that seemed very straightforward, and it seemed to send a message, but then I saw that on the message, it notes that there is "1 participant" - so I guess it's not a private e-mail, as on the previous board, but does actually establish sort of a personal mini-message board.

Could anyone send me a test message - it could just say "test" - so I see what happens? Thanks.

I've pretty much figured it out now - if anyone is having trouble with it, make sure to check your "Permissions" & "Notifications" areas in your "My Space."

I can't say I've tried the private message feature yet, but I saw there it had notifications turned out. Here's where I am confused. Is that only for notifications for private messages? Or is it for replies to posts too? Cuz I mentioned elsewhere I was getting way too many notifications and didn't want them for every little reply. Now it seems to have been (kindly) turned off or stopped. But I do want to receive notifications if someone sends me a Private Message, especially since I may not check in all the time. Does anyone know about this?

Go to My Space--->Notifications. In the box that pops up there are two "Edit" links. Click on "Edit" and you get a list of which notifications are possible. Check off the ones you want to receive.

Example: You can get an email when someone replies to a private message....it's handy and saves having to go to the site over and over to check for replies. I don't use PMs very often either, but now and then it's a good thing and very useful.

Thank you Healer Ali! I think that worked. I didn't even know I had so many "subscriptions." Anyhow, I changed it now.

I do hope tho, that I will still receive a message if anyone sends me a PM, as that option was not listed there.

Go to My Space--->Private Messaging...the link for getting an email whenever someone replies to a PM is located there. It takes a bit of navigating but once you get the hang, it's pretty easy. Good luck!

Part of the confusion was that it sounded more like a mini message board than private messaging, but then I read others (Jocelyn) expressing thats exactly what it is.

Anyway, am just happy I got this much done.

Glad it's working for you...just takes a bit of getting used to.

I give up. I have tried to follow all the emails, all the postings, but can find none of the postings that lead to the topic under discussion.
I have also found that I can no longer reply to the person who did the original post, but must join a queue to reply to the last person on the list who may not even be the person who asked an original question.

I was on the verge of giving up several times, and then I finally stopped expecting it to be like the old board and got used to it. You will, too, if you persevere - I promise! I always just say, "Hi, So-and-So" at the beginning of a message to indicate I'm replying to "So-and-so" - alternatively, if you click on the folder with quote marks, you can include a brief quote from the message you're replying to so it's clear.

It really is pretty clear who's responding to whom once you just stop comparing to the old message board and the way things were done there.

Awwwwww - come back, Zeaneagle - pretty please? The message board has finally started picking up a little bit - don't leave now!

You know how I feel!!! I would miss you more than you know if you should choose to leave the board. I do understand the frustration, However......perhaps instead of dropping off entirely an occasional insightful, inspiring, encouraging and exciting post would be most welcome!!!!

I will post a message on opening the chat room....I liked that idea and will see how that flies-I will let you know................

At the moment, ladies, I am in total overwhelm.
I get, now, over 300 gimmee a freebies a day and some are very real. Searching through them to find the real ones, then trying to search the board, (which Jenn has so kindly sent to me-I'll getcha fer that one Jenn!<teasing you) is killing me slowly. I know what sunlight is, I can see it throught the Ivory Tower Arrow Slits.
I really would like to experience it!!!
My editor is on my back, no writing is getting re-writ. She is, I am sure, a tiny wizened old hag on a very sharp broom, circling my house and muttering imprecations every time she flies over my Tower.
I am not bringing in any money, Bill is having a fit about that, my computer won't listen to a thing I say. (Maybe thats good?) and I am feeling very put upon. The worst part?
I brought all this on myself. Dammit!
