My son, who has asthma, is staying in the children's hospital in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

He was admitted to the Kelowna hospital on the night of the 28th. He was then flown via air ambulance to Vancouver along with his mother Andrea, early the next morning.

Just prior to being flown to Vancouver, my son was in severe respiratory distress. By the time he arrived, which was slightly delayed due to weather, the steroids had kicked in and he had improved noticeably.

Then yesterday morning he was taking oxygen consistently, and attached to an IV. He was taking a nebulizer every half hour. He has also been taking antiviral medication for H1N1 and viral Pneumonia.

Today he is off oxygen and the IV, he is no longer taking the nebulizer and he is still taking his antiviral medication as expected.

Rather than taking the nebulizer, he is taking 2 ventilators, 10 "puffs" each every 2 hours. This is an improvement as well. We would like to see that improve to 2 puffs per ventilator every 4 hours. We also need his oxygen levels to stabilize at 100%. It is my understanding that if he reaches this level he can be released from the hospital and come home.
