I had a horrible experience two mornings ago--I couldn't breathe, swallow, or talk. I was rushed to the emergency room and told I have had a bad sinus infection, coupled with horrible allergies and, apparently (just found out in the hospital) I have a hiatle (sp?) hernia as well....all which combined to make me feel I was dying from lack of breath. At any rate...I have never asked for healing for myself but I am scared of a recurrence of this episode and am tired of feeling sick and tired all the time. Would appreciate any healing that could be sent my way. Thank you. Vonnie

A hiatus hernia is a weakness or defect in the diaphragm, which allows abdominal contents to slip up into the chest. It puts pressure on the lungs, making it difficult to breathe. Inability to talk is severe shortness of breath. It tends to happen when the person is lying down. Try sleeping with the head of your bed elevated if it happens again. Hiatus hernia is a mechanical defect in the muscle, and usually needs surgical repair to close the hole. Nowadays many can be repaired laparoscopically. If a hiatus hernia causes aspiration of stomach contents into the lungs, it can be a life-threatenig event.

If this happened to me, I'd get further workup and evaluation of the hernia by means of scans to see how large it is and it's location, and what needs to be done to repair it. I would not wait for a second episode to have it evaluated. They tend to enlarge over time.

To all those who replied to my request--thank you so much. I am being very careful with the way I eat (slowly and with small bites)and am sleeping with my head raised. I will be going for an endoscopy within the next few weeks. I am scared of doctors, though, and hope I will remain calm through the procedure. Thanks again.

Nothing makes me more frightened than seeing "machinery" in a doctor's office. I will most certainly notify everyone of the day and time and if you could send calming energy....it would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping I can do this since calmly since I have real anxiety around doctors and their procedures.
