If you have the time fambly,

I know this is a bit odd request but there is a poor robin who has for almost a week now been exhibiting some very odd behavior. From the time the sun comes up around 6 until it gets dark around ten he flies non stop at the windows in my kids bedroom. They have the room above the garage.

I have tried talking to him and sending him messages but he only leaves to go eat. We hear this constant thawk all day long. He does one window and then the next one right beside it. Switching back and forth rhythmically. It breaks my heart to see him doing this. We surmise that he perhaps thinks the bird in the window is a potential mate. My older son put up bird silhouettes to no avail. Any ideas how I can help this poor bird?

Please send to him if this is something you feel you want to do. It must be exhausting for him

great blessings and hugs
karen

Are the bird sillouettes on the inside of the window? If so, he may not be seeing them. I would venture that there is a reflection creating a mirror effect and the only way to stop it is to change that. Can you hang a sheet or soemthing over the windows for a couple of days to break the cycle? Or tape newspapers over the windows. Just for a day or two and maybe he will see that his mate/adversary is gone..... Even putting pictures of predatory birds (owls, hawks) on the OUTSIDE of the window might help....

Please let me know what works - I love my birds and would hate to watch what you have going on!!!

We used to have this problem at work, with the pigeons flying into the office windows. We're a few storeys high. Frowner

I asked one of my orbs to place an energy field around the building, intending it deter our flying friends from coming too close. We haven't had any pigeons flying into the windows since. Worth a shot?

Jana, me too, I'd be in tears!

Peace and blessings,

Jo & Jana, Those both sound like great ideas for Karen to try. I don't have any great ideas, so I'll just have to send that little birdie some energy and hope it helps.

I agree that you need to block the windows with a curtain or blinds until the pattern breaks. Poor thing must get exhausted.

Hi Karen,
Reading your story about the poor robin I remembered someone told me once that robins, as sweet as they look are loners and can not stand any other birds specially if they have red in their feathers. If there is something read in the garden they tend to attack it for a long time. I do not know if this is true will ask a friend who knows a lot about birds.

If this is the case with the robin, the pecking and the thawking it could indeed be the reflection of him self or maybe the birds silhouettes in your sons window are they red?

Will send to ((((((((( robin ))))))))

Here are some suggestions I found online for "Living with Wildlife"

Songbirds

* If you have a window that songbirds tend to hit, try taping a paper hawk silhouette to the outside of the window.
* Mylar tape or colorful streamers taped to the outside of a window can be an effective short-term deterrent during breeding season when male birds are particularly likely to charge their own reflection in a window.

Hope this helps...the orb thing is an interesting idea too!

Thanks all you gals for your wonderful suggestions.

The black hawk silhouettes were out of black construction paper and are on the inside of the window. My son got a template off the internet. The windows are so high we have no ladder tall enough to access them from the outside of the window.

Yesterday morn I tried sending him a Universal light blessing, I a, and tried using my pendulum to reprogram him. Well last night I put up a huge sheet across the two windows. He was watching me as I did it. Oh shoot, I just heard him as I typed. I will have to get a ladder when i get home to cover the last little bit of the triangular windows. They are too hight to reach standing on the chair. I thought I had covered enough of the window to keep him away. Yikes he is persistent!

We have lots of big windows, especially in the kids room, big dormers. We do have trouble with birds hitting those windows and knocking themselves silly or breaking their necks. I will try Joanna creating a field around all the big windows like you did. May try the streamers too.

Well hmmm, we shall see if I can thwart the robin and his bent to attack my windows.
I will get back to you with my progress.
thanks everyone
Karen

Hi Karen,
Just heard from my friemd (the one who knows a lot about birds) that it might really be that the robin is seeing himself and thinks it's an other robin and so to speak an enemy. They are very territorial and seem to fight to the end till one is dead. Yes it's terrible to think robins do this they look so sweet. They are only together in the spring when they mate and than they are solitair agaim.

The trouble with putting up a sheet on the inside of the window is that it won't change the reflection on the outside of the glass. I had this bird problem at the lake and the only thing that stopped it was to block the window temporarily with cardboard or a piece of plywood on the outside of the window glass. That stopped all mirror-reflections for the bird and stopped the problem right away.

Hope this helps!

Karen - is there a way you can pop off the screen to reach outside? You might be able to install something on the outside that way (I am assuming ( Eeker ) that the windows open.... I had thought maybe tacking a sheet up outside would still allow some light through in the meantime so the kids don't have to live in a cave Big Grin

I am so concerned for the lil guy! He needs to find a girl Robin to distract him!!!

Hi Fanbly,
It is going on 8 days now. You are right Ali, the sheet doesn't work. I went out and looked up and could see the tree reflected in the window, well the branches where he hangs out.

The windows, Jana are big. The bottom part opens and has a screen but then the two upper parts of the windows go up to a triangle. that is why there are no curtains on the windows, odd fit.
We will just have to see how tis will play out. Poor little fellow.

Thanks for all your healthful ideas. will keep trying to see what I can get to work for him. He is slowing down a bit and being gone for longer times.

Hugs to everyone
karen

I've heard of this before. The bird thinks it sees someone in his territory and attacks it. It's actually his own reflection in the window. You need to alter the OUTSIDE of the window, not the inside. The OUTSIDE needs to be non-reflective or have the predatory bird or the streamers. If there were a screen over the entire window, that would also solve the problem while allowing light and the view inside.

I know Robins eat worms and some fruit. Many birds this time of year get a little tipsy on some of those fruits... like the little red ones. Maybe he's been over indulging.

He is still coming but less and less, just early morning and and sometimes early evening. Maybe it is wearing off and he is getting tired of the battle or all your energy is working!
Here is hoping, at least his behavior is lessening.

Thanks family
