Liz just sent me an email:

Martins mum isn’t doing so well she’s all out of sorts and wont let anyone touch/hold here. She won’t eat or drink and they have put her in a room on her own. When they ask her about how she is feeling etc she just shrugs her shoulders and says ‘I don’t know…’ Not sure what is wrong at all. Thinking it may be a build up of toxins again but the tests they are doing don’t show anything yet.

Sorry to ask yet more of (any of) you but ... please?!

Hi fambly,

I have just had an email from Liz, it sounds as if Elizabeth is not doing very well. I know that all will be in Divine order, but here is Liz's update:

I got another call from Danny at lunchtime in tears.... The docs are saying Elizabeth has dementia, she really is making it difficult for them to treat her, no food, needles etc and doesn't really speak to Danny when he is in. She is having panic attacks too. Anyway they need to sedate her as she has fluid on the lungs too and obviously deteriorating etc to lack of food and meds so they have sedated her now. But they wanted Danny to decide that IF she goes into Cardiac Arrest what to do She may not but if she does and they bring her back she may basically be in a vegetative state. Yuck! So Danny and Martin reluctantly agreed to not resuscitate if they need to Martin will call his dad later to see what the news is so far but they are hoping to get her stronger whilst sedated. Im not sure what has caused the dementia etc..

I am open to the fact that this may (possibly?) be Elizabeth subconsciously releasing her attachment to life? I am still relatively new to all this but I guess I will continue to send for Elizabeth's highest good, whatever that is.

Thanks to all who have sent so far, and who are still sending. I know this has been going on for a wee while now.

I have another update - hopefully brighter days ahead:

Martin spoke to his dad again yesterday - Elizabeth is sedated and last night knew who Danny was and was smiling….(through the sedation! ) So as long as she doesn’t get worse then maybe they can get her stronger again.

The reason she won’t eat etc is that everything is giving her diarrhea so she refuses instead! But if she doesn’t eat she gets a build up of toxins from not using the loo and then gets agitated. Well, that’s what seems to happen anyway! So they could get her better and then we go through this again ... it’s difficult to know what they will try. Hopefully they will think of something. She does have one drip in her but they will add other meds and food soon - they are just taking it slowly so as not to over do it and cause problems.

I mentioned to Liz that as Elizabeth has had IBS problems for years, it is possible she is intolerant to a lot of the available foods (especially dairy) - no wonder she didn't want to eat!

I think once they develop the right protocol of diet and meds, she may well be on the mend....although we are grateful for alternative thoughts if anyone has any.

Quite possibly, Jo!! Releasing that attachment takes time and is so hard on family.

I am offering for Elizabeth and the entire family for their highest good. Being a part of someone's transition can be a very powerful and awesome experience. If it is her time, let it be so. If it is not her time, then may all hope and healing surround them all.

Just a brief note to say that sadly Elizabeth passed away this evening. I will provide a bit more info tomorrow.

Please continue to keep Danny, Martin and Elizabeth in your thoughts.

I am so very sorry for Danny - his loss is tremendous. Martin as well. I truly believe that Elizabeth had a wonderful abundance of assistance in making her transition.

Deepest condolences to all who loved her. So many times, a patient will have a rally just before they go, where they recognize people and become lucid, & wake up for a bit. Then, they are ready to go.

This is the rest of the email I had from Liz last night (its for my family so it repeats some of what we already know). I'm posting it so that there is a kind of 'closure', if that makes sense?

Once she moved to Falkirk a few weeks ago, Elizabeth seemed to start making some good progress and we were hoping she could come home some time, then the last couple of weeks she had been more agitated and started to experience panic attacks.

The nurses could not get her to eat or drink anything and she wasn’t really letting them nurse her very well. The doctors seemed to think that her body was building up these toxins again, (which is what originally got her admitted back in May) the toxins were making her stressed, agitated, slightly demented and basically very unwell. So yesterday they advised they wanted to sedate her like she was in the ICU back in May in Stirlingshire Hospital. This way they could administer some meds and get some food and water back into her system.

She was starting to suffer from fluid on the lungs. Danny saw her yesterday and this afternoon and she was calm, recognizing him, responding to him and loving him back with kisses. Danny got a phone call at home between visits this afternoon to say that she had passed away - the nurse had been with her as she was administering some antibiotics at the time, so Elizabeth had someone there holding her hand which is a blessing.

Danny has a golfing buddy with him at the moment so he isn’t totally on his own - and Martin was already due to return to the UK tomorrow night for work on Monday, but will now be up in Scotland Monday Morning, and I will come over in a couple of days once we know all the arrangements.

As you know Elizabeth had muscular dystrophy and in the end she couldn’t fight it any longer, she only started developing symptoms at around 50 years old and unfortunately it came on very fast, she would only have been 65 this year.

I only met Danny and Elizabeth once, at Liz and Martin's wedding less than 4 years ago. Yet I feel like I have lost a member of my own family.

I am so very grateful that Elizabeth was surrounded by our loving energies when she needed them. You guys really are the best.
