I know what you mean about the prescriptions. My Mom is like that although she has gotten a lot better about it and takes quite a few herbals. I got her to go to a naturopathic doctor who gave her supplements for her heart. She'll take them but they take 2nd place to her scripts. I think it is a generational thing also. If an MD says or gives it, it has to be right!

A nurse told my Mom once that it takes a week to recover for every day spent in the hospital. For my Mom I remind her of that because she gets frustrated when she wants to do more. You can try that with your Dad but if it going to depress him, don't.

Thank you so much, Barb! This news inspired me to call my mother and repeat the "Trust the Process" lecture I've been giving all week! Dad was in the hospital for 10 days, he's not going to be doing cartwheels in the first week after getting home but he has no patience for the healing process. Knowing that he will be going up and down for the next few weeks may take the pressure off of them, in theory.

In the meantime, he's having trouble peeing and he thinks his kidneys are shutting down. Since they gave him a huge load of antibiotics when they thought he had pneumonia, I think he may be developing a bladder infection. Can we continue to run energy for him and his bladder and kidneys? And his attitude...LOL~

You're all so wonderful, I'm honored to be a part of this wonderful healing team.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Randy I would check with the doctor about forcing fluids on your dad, or encouraging large water intake. He already has a sodium-dilution problem and overdose of water may not be the thing. Ask first, OK?
Thanks!!!

I was not suggesting "forcing" fluids. Just that drinking water is good to flush out toxins... as opposed to other kinds of fluids. I appologise, that was probably not clear enough the way I wrote it.

Of course the doctor should be consulted and I would hope the doctor has specifically mentioned how much fluid should be or not be, if it was still a concern given his loss of sodium there for a time.

While many Americans do not drink enough water, there are many elderly and ill people for whom water and salt balance is poorly regulated. This balance is critical, and ingestion of either water or salts in excess causes wild derangement of this fine balance, because they do not have the normal buffering mechanisms that automatically correct small imbalances.

Persons with cardiac, kidney and some lung problems can die very quickly from a syndrome called water intoxication. There have been recent deaths of healthy athletes who just simply drank too much water, and it has been in the news. Anyone taking diuretics needs to be aware of this syndrome, as well. It can affect diabetics, too.

You may want to just google "water intoxication" to read up on this if you are engaged in athletics, or if you have family members with any of the conditions mentioned above.

Water can kill. Thanks.

Hello All, thank you so much for your support for my dad. I just got back from a visit and he is getting stronger, he's up all day most days and is feeling better over all.

However, he wishes to die and is doing a fine job of trying to kill himself with a bad attitude! I've never seen this level of negative thinking, who knew he had it in him?! And where in the world did I get the capacity for the positive viewpoint I now possess, because it's obvious it didn't come from him!

That being said, I love him like crazy and have given hundreds of annoying pep talks and offered even more suggestions. Who knows what he hears and how it will affect him, but I won't give up. Everyone dies, of this we have no choice. But we can choose what thoughts and attitudes we live our life with or face our death with and this, I believe, can make all the difference in the level of suffering we endure ... or not.

Boy, have I learned a lot from this adventure with my dad! Thank you for all you have done to help and thanks to my dad for helping me define and refine my own ideas on this very human and touching issue.

Sometimes the chemical and metabolic imbalances that are part of the crisis and the "after-healing" creates attitudes that one just can't even fathom. (PMS, anyone?) THese are feelings that are not coming from the "heart" but are the result of the miscellaneous "stuff" floating though the bloodstream!!!

Sending for balance and healing on the metabolic level, for return of the balance needed to restore a positive outlook.
