Hello and Good Day,

I was fortunate to find your forum, like I was directed here.

My husband Mark is 44 and has had 3 surgeries on his left knee since 09/1998. Back in 02/2008 he injured his right knee and had surgery on it in 03/2008.

We recently went to a specialist, as he is continuing to have pain and not able to physically work until this point. On the way home from the specialist he began having additional pain, similar to the Sciatic Nerve in the right leg from the foot up. It has been totally unbearable for three days.

Please send healing energy to my husband Mark for both knees, especially the right one, that has had the latest surgery.

I send blessings to you all and appreciate your love and kindness in the matter.

Thank You,
Mary

Lady, I have placed Mark on my list for distant sessions for a while, for work on bilateral knees. It strikes me as being odd that there was an increase in pain while on the way home from seeing the specialist...orthopedist? Was anything done that could have caused pain, like a vigorous exam in the doctor's office? Also I am not clear on the pain location...is it in the knee, the leg from the foot up, or in the sciatic nerve area (buttock?) Was the surgery an ACL reconstruction by any chance? If so was a cadaver tendon used?

Thanks...He is on my list for sure and I am doing a session as soon as I finish posting this.

Ali,

The injury on the right knee took place 02/12/08, when Mark fell on ice. At that time we thought it was sciatic, as the pain was from the buttocks all the way down to the top of his right foot. After going to an accupuncturist and chiroprator, the pain in the right knee continued.

We were referred to a sport's medicine surgeon. An MRI and Xrays were done. They could see where there was a tear in his miniscous (sp) and the ligement on the inside of the right leg had been stretched. They did a scope on the right knee 03/26/08. The turnicate that the leg was held still with left a bruise on the outside of the right leg. After removing the dressing and extreme pain... we noticed the bruise... swelling from the ankle up to the groin. We were afraid it was a blood clot so we called the after hours Dr. They ordered an ultrasound to rule it out.

Therapy has been very slow. He has improved, but not nearly as he should. So... we requested a second opinion, as the Dr. was baffled why 9 weeks post op there was swelling/pain continuing.

That Dr. sent us to another orthapedic surgeon, which agreed that the cartlidge that was repaired souldn't cause this situation. He referred us to another Dr. (specialist) for knee/hip surgery/replacement/resurfacing. This one was 2+ hours away. He is going to order an MRI to attempt to rule out that the pain is from RSD. The Dr. was compasionate and gentle. Noted that there was redness and swelling in the right knee when comparing it to the left one. Pain level was like 7-8 on a scale of 0-10.

On the 2+ hour trip home the leg hurt more and more and then for the last three days pain was felt like the sciatic... from the buttocks down. The pain level from the buttocks down has been totally unbearable and was probably like a level 30... "way off the charts". He had started to walk on crutches to go to the restroom (very minimal movement).

He has noted some relief since about noon today (Eastern time). He prayed at home, while I was praying at church. Just after that... I found your forum. Searching to help him, plus... I would like to learn and help others.

Thanks for everything,
Mary

Mary - Welcome! You found a wonderful Fambly here. You say you want to learn to help - as I did when my husband was ill.... It is so frustrating to not be able to help. THe best place to start is to get a copy of the Book "Quantum Touch, the Power to Heal" by Richard Gordon - it is where we all start.

In the meantime...

Thanks for the good information, appreciated. I hope you get an answer soon as to the cause of this. I have one foot in medicine and the other foot in the healing world, so I'm naturally interested in the chain of events. Or, if you like, just call me nosey, ha ha. At any rate thanks.

Tourniquet bruising is not unusual post arthroscopy. There is also a leg-holder that's used and that can also be a source of some bruising, but either way, it is usually transient and minor.

I'll keep him on the list, and I hope the MRI will give you an answer!!

Many blessings....

Ali,

Yes, we understand that bruising often accompanies the scope. Although, it hadn't ever for him in prior surgeries where healing took place much quicker.

We both feel that there is more than one thing going on here and we are only trying to get to the root of the problem, have complete/painfree healing, and continue on with our lives as we were intended to.

Kindest Regards,
Mary
