Hahaha, Jo - do you really think that Thor thinks he is a doggie???? Eeker A much loved spirit of Barb's heart, perhaps... Big Grin

I think your program to get him moving is very wise, Barb. I agree that he probably has lost a lot of his tone due to inactivity. Short, wobbly spurts is a good thing!! Once he is past the antibiotic nausea and can eat, he will start figuring out that life is good again Smiler I think that what you are offering Thor is 'speaking' to him this time around - You are addressing the whole picture, so to speak. Very awesome!!!

I don't know what it is about Thor, Barb. I'm not usually a dog person, but he has touched my heart. (As you have as well...)I am continuing to send as well.

(((((((((((((((((Thor & Barb))))))))))))))))))))))))
For all the right moves!

Thor you're almost home Buddy!! He remains on my list too Barb.

I think I remember you were giving him probiotics to help with his flora the antibiotics destroy. I don't know if you ever tried the ground lavender flowers in his wet food, but this might be a good time to help him with his nausea.

Love and blessings to you and Thor Barb!

Thor seems to touch everyone's heart every where he goes. People just love him. He is an awesome gentle soul but boy I found out he has quite a stubborn streak when he wants to and a lot of pride. I tried putting a t-shirt around his back end to protect his right hip, where it was shaved and first he wouldn't help me at all getting over his legs and putting his tail through the opening and when I got it on him, he sulked and lowered his head and looked so miserable, I took it off. He gave me the "how could you do this to me look" for a few minutes and then was his normal self again.

I have tried a few things to assist him and he balks at them all and refuses to move and sulks. Unbelievable pride. I love him dearly but these last few months I sometimes wished he wasn't so bright Smiler.

His nausea was a little better last night and this morning. I diffused some lavendar before I left for work and he ate a little better - not back to normal. He doesn't finish his antibiotic until Sunday night. I feel like not giving it to him anymore but I would feel awful if his infection came back because I stopped too soon so I guess we will stick with it.

He still walks only a short distance wobbly but I'll take it for now. I really feel he is stuck in a habit of only walking so far. I moved his bed across the room and he looked totally surprised and even started to tremble a little so I think I am on the right track with habits. I am trying to mix up my routines also so he doesn't anticipate everything.

Sorry for the length but I know many of you follow the Thor story closely. Hugs from me and woof from Thor.

Peace and Blessings
Barb

Thor remains about the same although his eating is better now that he is off the antibiotics.
I found out the other day that there is a gene in some of the herding dogs, such as shepherds, that makes some meds toxic to them. One of them is acepromazine which is the presedation they used. It said it can put the dog into a stupor as can some of the pain meds he has been on. I truly believe he has this mutant gene as they call it since it took about 36 hours to get out of his stupor. I am trying to keep him away from meds and try to detox his system. It is very disconcerting when you find out you have been making your dog worse the more you try to help. I really like his vet but she just attributed the problems to his age and his particular system.

As always I ask for energy to his lower spine and leg muscles but also to his bladder. He is still incontinent although seems a little better. It could be the nerve to the bladder or irritation/ spasm from his infection that he had. I have ordered an herbal formula that is supposed to strengthen the bladder but a little QT wouldn't hurt either Smiler

Woof from Thor - hugs from me.

Peace and Blessings
Barb

Well we went to the doctor yesterday and the news was not good. The fact that Thor has not gotten substantially better by now makes it less likely he will.

She said my options are orthopedic consult and possible spinal surgery to relieve disk pressure on his nerve but that would involve an MRI and possibly myelogram first and then 2-3 months of recuperation with unknown outcome. Neither one of us thought that was a good option.

She said we could try cortisone to see if that would relieve the inflammation. We are going to see if he can tolerate that and if he can have it now since you are not supposed to give steroids too soon after the stem cell therapy.

The last option is to get him a cart for paralysis.

I am still hoping that some strength returns but am not optimistic. Please continue to send to his spinal cord to reduce inflammation.

Thanks from both of us. I've attached a new picture from Saturday.
