Hi Barb! Big Grin

I am sorry this has ben such a tough time. I hope getting at the inflammation will be helpful!

By the way, on the acepromazine.... I have had two shepherds... one could toerate it and the biggest shepherd could not even stand up on a mere 1/4 tab test dose. that was it for me! My dogs will never get acepromazine again... once I saw what it did to the one dog. I had to carry that dog's hind end to her water dish for four hours.. on 1/4 tab! Frightening, to say the least! (Glad we had tested her with a small dose.)

I have since talked with many boarding facilities, traininers, etc. They all have a distate for acepromazine. If there are ever any other appropriate options, I'd encourage anyone to check into the other options for sedations.

In additon to the cortisone injection, have you and your vet ever discussed using proteolytic enzymes?

There is a company named Mucos in Germany that makes excellent proteolytic enzymes. For humans, the formulation is named "WobenzymN." For dogs, it is named, "Fidozymes." (There has recently been a legal battle to determine just which company has the legal right to distribute these formualtions in the U.S. I currently forget which company had won the rights.)

Nonetheless, this formulation is available. I am assuming they are making Fidozymes still avaialble; yet, I do not know that for sure. I do know the human formulation is available. If you speak with the distributor... they will be able to give you the mg. dosage per tab for each formulation. Many ppl. use the human formulation, just less of it, once they know the # of mg. involved.

Proteolytic enzymes are well known for addressing inflammation in the body. There are many, many accounts of people and dogs improving with using proteolytic enzymes for inflammation...even in the spine, etc.

My vet now uses there for dogs sensitive to steroids... including 2 of her own dogs. My chiropractor is also a canine chiroparctor and she also often recommends them for canines.

I do not have the most up-to-date information on these, as I had learned about them 8-10 years ago. They are used heavily in Germany... even for sports injuries, etc. I have heard many testimonies as to helping chronic back injuries for ppl., etc.

You and your vet may want to talk with this or another company. The company had actually talked with me...also with my vet...and with my chiropractor.

I have no interest in this products, except for the fact that I have seen this work in many different situations... both human and canine!

I hope a viable option is available to keep Thor comfortable and as healthy as possible!

As always, you, "Grandma," Thor , the "girls" and your kitty are in my daily offerings!

Big warm hugs.. all of the way around! Big Grin

With Hopeful Healing Love,
Julie

Thor's stomach is acting up again. Has an appetite but turns his head when offered food except for his beloved lemon bars.

I had to give him some pain med earlier this week and then started him on a new herbal joint formula but it was alcohol based and I think that irritated him.

He is now on a tablet version and I think it is helping his joints but I am concerned about his stomach. Don't know whether he has inflammation or hopefully not a blockage fromhis surgery in September. He is drinking ok and is alert otherwise.

I am going to try and get him in to the vet later today but please send some healing energy his way to his stomach. He loves to eat and I know he is hungry.

Thanks Fambly fromboth of us.

Peace and Blessings

Sending to our darling QT Mascot Thor for healing for his tummy
(((((((((((((((((((Thor)))))))))))))))))))

Hope he gets to feeling much better soon, Barb. It just seems so hard when they won't eat. But at least he is still going for the lemon bars. That is still a good sign.

xxoo,

Denise

Hi Barb! Big Grin

I am sorry Thor continues with tummy issues. Frowner

I have a question for you. I was talking with our vet yesterday and she is seeing many ill dogs in this area. The dogs are ill with mostly GI symptoms. These are upper and/or lower GI symptoms and can range from mild to sevre (and bleeding colitis, even in dogs without a history of colitis). The municipal water supply is suspected to be the cause.

Some municipalities are using an additive disinfectant named "chloramine" in the public water supply. This is making some people and some animals ill! Frowner

This has been documented as causing all levels of gastrointestinal distress, breathing problems and skin problems. (This is the known "triad" of symptomatologies as far as I know at this time. However, it would make sense to me that this chemical, which is a combination of chlorine and ammonia, would potentially cause further problems in additional bodily systems.)

(It is not easy to remove the chloramine from the water. Only certain types of filtering systems can do this.)

Since this was just brought to my attention, I'd thought I'd pass this on to you! Smiler

Area vets report a drastic increase in ill dogs recently. Their symptoms are predominantly GI in nature.

I hope this is not the case in your water supply! Yet, it is worth looking into? Confused

www.chloramine.org

As always, you and all of yours are in my daily remembrances. Wink

I hope you have a good holiday weekend! Big Grin

With Lots of Love,
Julie

I am sorry for not updating sooner but my right sciatic nerve was killing me until yesterday and I had a headache plus it was my Mom's 86th birthday Sunday.

Sometimes I hate always giving you guys bad news about Thor. The vet found his blood work was very good especially for his age and he was well hydrated. Smiler. One of his white blood cell counts was a little high so she put him on amoxicillin Frowner and gave him a pill to take 2 hrs before to coat his stomach and heal any inflammation or possible ulcer.

Thor actually walked into the vet's on Friday with help, even on the slippery floor because it has been raining, but he was horrible over the weekend not even wanting to get up. I was pretty much thinking we have come to the end of line but this morning he was trying to get up and walked with help and stayed outside for a little while I got ready for work.

He is horribly nauseous today and I am wondering if he got some corn syrup or flour. I try to be very careful but he almost acts like he did when his allergy flares up. He swallows hard and shakes his head sometimes like he is dizzy - not a stroke thing. He is drinking well. I am going to double check all his supplements because they sneak dextrose into a lot of them. He did have a tincture for his bladder that had corn silk in it so that may have caused a flare up Frowner.

So right now it doesn't seem to be time and he still doesn't have "the look". He actually gets excited when I bring him food but then burps Smiler and turns his head. He is on 2 homeopathic pills now called Traumeel and Zeel. I am hoping not only will that ease any discomfort but they also don't upset the GI or liver.

Thanks for the info about the water, Julie, but luckily I have my own well and it is very good water.

So I am once again optimistic about Thor and I really do hope my next update will be more positive. Again if you can focus on the lower spine, right leg and maybe his tummy. As always Thor and I are grateful for the fambly.

Peace and Blessings
Barb

Barb,

Thanks for the update on Thor. It sounds like he's not doing so bad overall, even though his struggle continues. I think it is really very encouraging that he was able to walk into his vet's on Friday, even if he did seem to regress later on. But that does show what he is capable of.

So sorry you were under the weather this weekend, and I hope you're doing much better now.

Sending to Thor for strength and healing, and to you for continued healing of your sciatic nerve and relief from any headaches

A thought. Since Thor is so sensitive to medications, maybe when he is in distress you could "intend" that he have the "essence of" whatever he needs. I am not thinking about the antibiotics...I mean the things to soothe him, his tummy and his discomfort. Jo has talked a bit about intention of various healing essences..... Perhaps she can provide some advice. Just a thought.

Thank you everyone. That is a good thought Jana. Do you just hold the bottle or pill or whatever over him or how does it work?

I think I was right about his allergy instead of the antibiotic. He seems less nauseaous each day and he is still on the antibiotic until tomorrow. He is cautious about what to eat but turkey and egg yolks are way popular right now.

I went to the store yesterday to get more food for him and I couldn't believe how long it took me reading ingredients. Almost everything I looked at has corn syrup and modified food starch!

I think he is on the mend from the allergy. Still not getting up and walking on his own.

Peace and Blessings

Thanks Julie.
I haven't posted for a while because I've had my hands full. Thor is about the same although he is eating a little better. I got him some digestive enzymes called Nzymes which are supposed to help with inflammation. I looked for the fidozymes but they have corn product in them.

Two of my cats came down with UTI's, Monk and Spats. In fact Monk got blocked and we had to go to the emergency vet Thursday night.

They are both doing better but the antibiotic is making Spats sick so he stopped eating and drinking yesterday. I had to syringe water down him every few hours. He is more alert today and tried to eat but threw up so he is back at the vet's (I knew I went in to the wrong profession Smiler).

Thor is holding his own - not really walkin- but doing well otherwise.

Thanks for asking. Even though I haven't posted, I have been thinking of you daily.

Peace and Blessings
Barb
