She's about 15, a long-haired black cat. Been at the vet's since Friday. Anemic, dehydrated, diarrhea, hyperthyroidism, just to name a few. She had started eating almost immediately and had been eating well. Her stools were starting to harden up again. When I saw her last night, she looked like she was having a seizure or something. Her neck is arched with her chin almost touching the base. She can't stand or move very well. She recognizes me and purrs and talks a little. I went back after an hour and a half and there was no change. I'm scared...

Debbie,
I have seen this one other time, and if I remember right, the arching of the neck was a symptom of potassium deficiency. The vet added potassium to the fluids and within a few days the arched neck was gone and kitty was doing much better...not sure if this is the same thing, but could be worth checking with your vet, see if they can do an electrolyte panel.

MANY THANKS to all!!! The vet's office said the same thing... potassium deficiency. She has had this intestinal bug for about a week (or less) with explosive diarrhea. They've been giving her fluids everyday, which is bringing her out of it. They were able to take a blood sample yesterday, so I'll begin getting results back today. She was lying flat, purring and kneading me by the time I left last night, so I know she feels better. She's not 100% yet, but the turnaround is phenomenal. Baby Girl is such a sweet kitty. I call her my angel baby!

Hugs and again, much appreciation and love to all!

Unfortunately, Baby Girl's condition returned to the previous status about 5 hours after getting her home from the vet's. She is really struggling. She is very anemic. Along with energy I'm sending her, I'm also force feeding her Science Diet A/D mixed with some sort of liquid that's supposed to stop the diarrhea, Transfer Factor, and probiotics (both in a paste and a capsule). Plus she's getting two thyroid pills daily and metronidozole... I'm not sure we're making any headway. I've talked to the vet's office about giving her another B-12 shot today. Her thyroid function is 2 1/2 times higher than the highest *normal*. Kidney function is poor. One of her kidneys is twice normal sized. Other than that, there doesn't seem to be any tumors. There wasn't any blood in her diarrhea this a.m., so that may be a change for the better. Could use any help anyone can spare. Plus I'm feeling weak and shaky today... bummer...

Hugs & love to all,

Deb

Oh, and I forgot to add that I'd crushed up a kitty vitamin and threw it in with the food mixture... yum... yum...

Just got back from the vet's. She was only slightly dehydrated, nothing they were concerned about. She got an antibiotic, dex and a B-12. Her appetite hasn't improved though... bummer... Back to force feeding...

Hugs and love!

Thank you, all you sweet people! I suddenly stopped feeling shaky and like this was my last day on earth. Now I feel pretty normal again! Baby Girl has gotten back her appetite, but the bad diarrhea has increased to match her food intake... This is disheartening, especially since she's on probiotics...

Hoping for a better day tomorrow...

Hugs & love!

Deb
