I was recently providing anesthesia for a 375# gentleman having a total knee replacement under spinal anesthesia....with sleep apnea. The case was not without its difficulties, but we were sailing along on relatively smooth waters until about 3/4 through the case. For some odd reason, my patient started sounding like a dove, cooing and stuttering with each expiration. My attending anesthesiologist happened to be in the room as this happened. We both looked at each other with question marks coming out of our ears, and I shrugged my shoulders and switched into energy mode. The noise ceased, my anesthesiologist smiled and looked at me, and said: "whatever works." Oh, the joys of Quantum-Touch.
