I have friends who do carraige-driving events. One of their lovely horses, Don, an Andalusian, was being led out of his stall at the trainer's, & there was a small sill across the entry of the stall. Don caught the left rear hoof on that sill and fell forward, very hard, sustaining a very bad injury to the gastrocs tendon in the left hind leg. When my friends arrived , he was in agony, standing on 3 legs, in obvious pain & distress. Vets were called immediately, of course, and the horse had to be left at the training facility for 3 weeks, because they couldn't trailer him home on 3 legs. Date of the injury was July 4.

Long story short, they did a nerve block, steroid injections, XRays, thermograms, ultrasound, laser treatments, and vet acupuncture. Nothing was helping. Desperate, they consulted a psychic who had them use herbs and some feather-stroking.

Finally he could put the foot down and walk on 4 legs, but still not right. Last week in casual conversation with my friends, I asked if they'd thought about some healing energy, and it was like a lightbulb lit up. So last Sunday I went out to the farm to see sweet Don, to see what I might be able to do to help.

I haven't been around horses for decades, and not very much then, either. So, I'm nervous, OK? The horse was haltered and led around the arena so I could see him walk and move, and aside from putting the injured leg down gingerly, he seemed to be walking pretty well, but slowly. The site of injury was noticeably swollen and darker in color than surrounding tissue, or the other leg.

I introduced myself to Don, out loud, and let him smell me and we got acquainted just a bit. Then I told him why I came, to see if I could help his sore place to feel better, and I asked if it would be all right with him if I would run some nice warm healing energy. The horse actually lowered his head, nibbled my hand, & blew in my ear. I fell in love instantly!

To give him reassurance, I very slowly worked my way down his uninjured side to the rear, watching for any signals of kicking, (there were none) and ran my hands down the uninjured back leg, talking all the time. No reaction, so I started again, this time working my way back on the injured side.

He didn't want "hands-on" at the injury site, so I created my field with hands about an inch away, and ran energy. Green energy, 12 colors, silver, vortexed and used Supercharging and Core things as they seemed appropriate. Tremendous sensations in my hands.

After about 25 minutes we gave the horse a break, walked him a bit, then went back at it. He had his head down, did a lot of licking & chewing, and seemed very accepting the entire time, no kicking, and only a few small side-steps now and then.

When sensation in my hands slowed down, I said "I think we're done for today..." and I thanked the owners and the horse for the opportunity to do this session, for it was my first with a horse. Before leaving the farm, I went back to the horse and thanked him again, and had what can only be described as a love-session...what a wonderful horse he is!

In the week following the first session, guess what---Don started to put weight down on the bad leg promptly, decisively, and speeded up the walking considerably, with no evidence of discomfort. So, they asked me what I would recommend for further sessions...and I said let's try once a week for 4 weeks and see what happens.

The second visit was yesterday morning, and I am amazed in the difference in the confidence of the horse, the movements are no longer hesitant. Soybean harvest was in full progress on the farm, with huge machinery and a line of grain trucks outside the barn, and the noise & vibration was making all the horses a bit skittery....so we did a half-hour session and then just let the horse "be." During the second session, he did allow me to gently have "hands-on" at the site of injury. Huzzah!

Again he did a lot of licking, chewing, and had head down, seemed relaxed. His owner said "He is really liking this" over and over. So things are going in the right direction for dear Don....healing of that old injury from July 4 is speeding up. Swelling and discoloration are much improved.

To those of you who work with horses, any comments or advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated. I am a newbie with horses! I'll be going back to that beautiful farm again next Wednesday morning, & I can hardly wait. On this second visit, one of the other horses kept following me, putting his head on my shoulder. When I turned to walk away, that horse put his head on my shoulder from behind me and just walked along with me. Oh, my heart! This city-gal is in love!

I came home both times dirty and smelling of horse, and loved it, loved it. My friends are letting me experiment and learn, and of course I'd never charge a fee for these visits, because I am learning...it goes both ways. I just feel so privileged, I should probably pay them! LOLOL.

OK, you horsy-folks....all advice gratefully received. I'll keep you posted on how it goes with succeeding visits. Vets have told the owners not to do any carraige work with this horse until spring, & to very gradually work up to walking longer distances, because improvement has been so slow, at least until now.

What an adventure this is! I have photos of the horse, with one being a shot from the rear that shows both rear legs very well, & can send to anyone who's interested.

Thanks very much to Zeneagle, who gave me some great hints & help on how to get started! Couldn't have done it without you!

ALI! What a beginning!
I can't imagine all that you will do, and be able to do, just because you love.

I am so proud of you.

Hello Ali-

What a great experience you are having.....the beauty and wonder of the horse (for me) is their great and tremendous ability to share gratitude.

Many if not most horses have had no bodywork, so your slow approach was wise. I usually release the occipital bones(Two bumps at highest point on skull directly between the ears)before I do anything as many times horses are out here....and it is a safe place to work (do not stand directly in front of horse, stand at side of neck. Once the endorphins are released causing licking and chewing....they turn to mush...as you have experienced Smiler

Look forward to more posts-

Thanks to you both for help and wonderful replies. I'll keep you posted. Pnygal.....the endorphin release information is new to me, and very useful indeed, also the occipital adjustment. It all makes sense!

Dear Ali,
It is so wonderful to read about the help that you are now giving our animal friends!!!
I have a friend who has several animals that need QT, but I have not really tried as I'm not sure how receptive she--my friend--is to the energy. It always amazes me when people are concerned that it will "change" their animals or themselves--yes it will alievate the pain if it does nothing else. So I just bide my time as I know someday she will come around and I can run some energy to her fur kids.
Keep up the fantastic work and keep us informed
of the outcome of this beautiful animal and the others that you are/will be working on.
Light, Peace, and Loving Energy,
Cindysue

I am so inspired by everything that has been shared here. It is a beautiful teaching. What I know about horses could fill a thimble. I had no idea what big-hearted beings they are. It is wonderful to feel the love you've all expressed in your words for horses.

Thank you so much for sharing the love and energy.

AndreaB,
Go meet some horses! You will find a loving and heartfelt friendship with another caring person who stands on four, rather than two, legs.

That, the number of legs, is the only difference between all ofus, sorta...

Remember to advance very slowly, making certain to pull in your own energy, allowing the animal to make its own choices, then Awa ye go, lassie!

With many healing hugs and hopes for you,
zeneagle

I've tried to post a photo of Don the horse here, but I keep getting the message that the file is too large. The pictures are in Windows XP in "My Pictures." If anyone can tell me how to get around that and post the picture, I'd appreciate the information.

I also have pics filed in Picasa, but can't figger a way to access them by filename so I can attach to a post.

Frustrated.

Hi Ali,
To make the picture of Don smaller, find where you can "save as". It should be where you have the picture in whatever program you use. Then you should have a drop down menu that will let you choose "jpg" or "best for web". That will resize your picture to a smaller size. I hope this is clear enough, as I'm not very good with computers. I will try to add a picture of my mare Lady, to see if it works. Diane

Ali,

What a wonderful chance to find such an experience with a horse. Sounds like you found out why some of us have more than our share of horses. I find the love and gratitude of horses far exceed anything humans have understood for years.

Good luck in your endevors with the healing of the equine world.

Linda
