Since I had my first glimpse of "hard water" (aka sleet)...here are some quotes about the weather...
Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. ~John Ruskin A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water. ~Carl Reiner Weather forecast for tonight: dark. ~George Carlin Don't knock the weather; nine-tenths of the people couldn't start a conversation if it didn't change once in a while. ~Kin Hubbard I played as much golf as I could in North Dakota, but summer up there is pretty short. It usually falls on Tuesday. ~Mike Morley Anyone who says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain. ~Author Unknown Some people walk in the rain, others just get wet. ~Roger Miller For the man sound in body and serene of mind there is no such thing as bad weather; every day has its beauty, and storms which whip the blood do but make it pulse more vigorously. ~George Gissing, "Winter," The Private Papers of Henry Ryecroft, 1903 The best kind of rain, of course, is a cozy rain. This is the kind the anonymous medieval poet makes me remember, the rain that falls on a day when you'd just as soon stay in bed a little longer, write letters or read a good book by the fire, take early tea with hot scones and jam and look out the streaked window with complacency. ~Susan Allen Toth, England For All Seasons snowflake is one of God's most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together! ~Author Unknown Snowmen fall from heaven... unassembled. ~Author Unknown Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. ~Anthony J. Awaken my smiling heart, accept my broken heart.
Sunlight kissing the soul, darkness hiding the physical. Alone within one self, coexisting with all. The ying and the yang. another short poem I wrote after my meditation this morning. |

Some thoughts for the approaching Thanksgiving Day Holiday...
The Pilgrims made seven times more graves than huts. No Americans have been more impoverished than these who, nevertheless, set aside a day of thanksgiving. ~H.U. Westermayer If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice. ~Meister Eckhart Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude. ~E.P. Powell So once in every year we throng Upon a day apart, To praise the Lord with feast and song In thankfulness of heart. ~Arthur Guiterman, The First Thanksgiving As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy Remember God's bounty in the year. String the pearls of His favor. Hide the dark parts, except so far as they are breaking out in light! Give this one day to thanks, to joy, to gratitude! ~Henry Ward Beecher Our rural ancestors, with little blest, Patient of labour when the end was rest, Indulged the day that housed their annual grain, With feasts, and off'rings, and a thankful strain. ~Alexander Pope What we're really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving? ~Erma Bombeck, "No One Diets on Thanksgiving," 26 November 1981 Thanksgiving, after all, is a word of action. ~W.J. Cameron He who thanks but with the lips Thanks but in part; The full, the true Thanksgiving Comes from the heart. ~J.A. Shedd Thanksgiving Day comes, by statute, once a year; to the honest man it comes as frequently as the heart of gratitude will allow. ~Edward Sandford Martin For each new morning with its light, For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, for love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence. ~Erma Bombeck For flowers that bloom about our feet; For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet; For song of bird, and hum of bee; For all things fair we hear or see, Father in heaven, we thank Thee! ~Ralph Waldo Emerson An optimist is a person who starts a new diet on Thanksgiving Day. ~Irv Kupcinet Thou hast given so much to me, Give one thing more, - a grateful heart; Not thankful when it pleaseth me, As if Thy blessings had spare days, But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise. ~George Herbert The unthankful heart... discovers no mercies; but let the thankful heart sweep through the day and, as the magnet finds the iron, so it will find, in every hour, some heavenly blessings! ~Henry Ward Beecher Some hae meat and canna eat, - And some wad eat that want it; But we hae meat, and we can eat, Sae let the Lord be thankit. ~Robert Burns Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life... a true folk-festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seedtime and harvest, the ripe product of the year - and the deep, deep connection of all these things with God. ~Ray Stannard Baker (David Grayson) On Thanksgiving Day we acknowledge our dependence. ~William Jennings Bryan We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. ~Thornton Wilder It is literally true, as the thankless say, that they have nothing to be thankful for. He who sits by the fire, thankless for the fire, is just as if he had no fire. Nothing is possessed save in appreciation, of which thankfulness is the indispensable ingredient. But a thankful heart hath a continual feast. ~W.J. Cameron Lord, 'tis Thy plenty-dropping hand That soils my land, And giv'st me for my bushel sowne Twice ten for one. All this, and better, Thou dost send Me, to this end, That I should render, for my part, A thankful heart. ~Robert Herrick Forever on Thanksgiving Day The heart will find the pathway home. ~Wilbur D. Nesbit Grace isn't a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal. It's a way to live. ~Jackie Windspear But see, in our open clearings, how golden the melons lie; Enrich them with sweets and spices, and give us the pumpkin-pie! ~Margaret Junkin Preston I have strong doubts that the first Thanksgiving even remotely resembled the "history" I was told in second grade. But considering that (when it comes to holidays) mainstream America's traditions tend to be over-eating, shopping, or getting drunk, I suppose it's a miracle that the concept of giving thanks even surfaces at all. ~Ellen Orleans Stand up, on this Thanksgiving Day, stand upon your feet. Believe in man. Soberly and with clear eyes, believe in your own time and place. There is not, and there never has been a better time, or a better place to live in. ~Phillips Brooks Happy We-Stole-Your-Land-and-Killed-Your-People Day! ~Thanksgiving toast, from the movie Sweet November For what I give, not what I take, For battle, not for victory, My prayer of thanks I make. ~Odell Shepard If I have enjoyed the hospitality of the Host of this universe, Who daily spreads a table in my sight, surely I cannot do less than acknowledge my dependence. ~G.A. Johnston Ross And though I ebb in worth, I'll flow in thanks. ~John Taylor For, after all, put it as we may to ourselves, we are all of us from birth to death guests at a table which we did not spread. The sun, the earth, love, friends, our very breath are parts of the banquet.... Shall we think of the day as a chance to come nearer to our Host, and to find out something of Him who has fed us so long? ~Rebecca Harding Davis Gluttony and surfeiting are no proper occasions for thanksgiving. ~Charles Lamb, 1821 But whether we have less or more, Always thank we God therefor. ~Author Unknown Turkey: A large bird whose flesh, when eaten on certain religious anniversaries has the peculiar property of attesting piety and gratitude. ~Ambrose Bierce, The Devil's Dictionary For hearts that are kindly, with virtue and peace, and not seeking blindly a hoard to increase; for those who are grieving o'er life's sordid plan; for souls still believing in heaven and man; for homes that are lowly with love at the board; for things that are holy, I thank thee, O Lord! ~Walt Mason Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving. ~W.T. Thank you for all these inspirational thoughts. I have just read Stephen Covey's The 8th Habit - there are lots of wonderful quotes in there. This is one of them:
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space lies our freedom and power to choose our response. In those choices lie our growth and our happiness. Love to you all from Auckland, New Zealand |

If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door. ~Milton Berle
Just came back from a 5 day Hosptial Intensive doing massage at a hosptial in Toledo, OH...it was empowering and humbling at the same time. I had the opportunity to work with a variety of patients (mostly cancer patients) and I do believe that I got back far more than I gave...Combining massage with Reiki, Healing Touch and QT I was witness to the power of caring, compassionate touch and while I touched bodies...my soul was touched... ....now it is time to build that door! "Our worst fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our Light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?" Actually, who are you not to be. You are a child of God; your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightening about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of Creation within us. It is not in just some of us. It is in everyone and as we let our own light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear our presence automatically liberates others." - Marianne Williamson in her book "A Return to Love" Three Circles Health Body - Mind Wellness Quantum Touch Elohim Healing Teacher Reiki Master Nutrition Consultant |
