I had an interesting QT experience last weekend and felt I had to share.

I was at a birthday party for the two sons of family friends. I was outside with another adult with some kids playing on a swingset. One of the birthday boys (age 7) was climbing over the top of the swingset (because he is an insane little monkeyboy) while I was watching my 3 year old son. Well monkeyboy slips, and falls 6-7 feet directly onto his low back before his aunt can catch him. I did not see it but heard the thud and turned to see him start wailing and reaching for his low back. Dad was there right away and carried him into the house. He did not sound good.

I was back in the house later and noticed he was still missing from the party, so I knew that it must have been a bad fall. About 25-30 minutes after he had fallen, I went to go and look for him and check up. I found him with his parents in his room, lying on his side on his bed still crying, unable to move due to the pain. I offer my assistance and the parents say yes. So I sat with him and felt his back and asked some questions to look for deformities, bruising, any tingling, etc. I said that he should definitely be going to the ER to check for anything being broken. Then I started running energy, with one hand on the low back and one on his belly.

Within one minute of running energy, he became more upset and said that he was having trouble breathing. His throat was full of phlegm from all of the crying and so we sat him up for a few seconds until he calmed down and felt he could breathe alright again. I kept running the whole time. We then laid him back down and I continued working on him as his parents went out to prepare for a trip to the hospital.

Within another 3-4 minutes, he was no longer whimpering and crying and he said to me he wanted to walk. I said "are you sure?" He was determined, so I helped him sit up, then he got up, opened the door and walked downstairs to rejoin the party. He was still in obvious discomfort, but he was walking and no longer crying. He did not want me to keep working on him while around others, so I continued to do distance work on him for about 30 minutes, even after he had gone with his parents to the hospital.

I remember finding my wife a short time later and saying how QT was great for first-aid. I was quite surprised at how quickly he had responded.

I am still waiting to hear a more complete update from our friends, but I do know that some x-rays showed possible compression fractures in the lumbar area, but they did say that the boy was up and around and not in a great deal of pain. They were also in a fight with their HMO to get a CT scan done, even though it was recommended and indicated. Anyhow, I will try to update this at a later date.

HOly moly QJ, I'm so thankful for that boy's sake that you were right there. Really does sound awfully serious. Heaven knows how much worse it could have been without your promt attention.
