"Fierce Grace" is a wonderful dvd of his life if you can get hold of it.

Way back when, he was a Harvard psychologist who was 'turned on' with LSD by fellow faculty member, Timothy Leary, which completely changed his way of perceiving reality. After some years of exploring reality through psychedelics, he realized it was something of a dead-end and continued his spiritual search through a trip to India, where he met his guru. He became a major spiritual teacher in America and much of the world (really surprised you've never heard of him!). His first and probably still most famous book was "Be Here Now." His primary spiritual path has been the yoga of service - as it mentions on the Wayne Dyer site, he's raised millions for various charities he's initiated.
