I've done two sessions on a 13-year-old girl with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. In each session, I began by doing QT while holding the Triple Heater sedating points I mentioned in another post. Then, during the first session, I decided to focus on her heart center, using the unan, since both she and her mother feel that a suppressed trauma which occurred a couple of years ago was the originating factor. As I sandwiched her heart area while focusing there, my upper hand began to move away from the body and off to the side and, as also discussed in a previous post, I just followed the energy. Usually when I work this way, I have both hands off the body and, while I have a strong sense of following currents of energy, I am simply taking it on faith that something is happening in the body. Having one hand under her back, I could feel a very strong electromagnetic connection between the two hands and movements in her back relating to the movements of my upper hand. This probably does not sound so strange, until I mention, as an example, that my upper hand had been drawn off to the side of her body, and a few inches away from her body, and my index finger began making a tiny circling movement about 1/8" in diameter. I had the girl's mom in the room with me and was just thinking, "This just looks TOO bizarre and idiotic - I think I'll stop," when suddenly I felt a strong connection between that tiny circling motion way off to the side of the body and the shoulder blade on the OPPOSITE side, and it simultaneously jerked and gave a big release! (Next time, I'll follow Alain's advice and query the Universe: "What the HECK is happening here?!") This went on for about 45 minutes, and then, scanning, I was drawn to other areas for similar activity. Finally, there was a sense of a cool breeze, which usually signals being done for the time being. The client drowsed the whole time, and her mom said she's never seen her so peaceful and comfortable since the arthritis began. Of course, over the next days, she became worse than ever! Luckily, her mom is comfortable with energy work and understood this could happen.

During the next visit, after the TH sedation, I asked if the pain was equally bad all over, or if there was one area that was particularly bad, and she indicated the sides of her neck. This time, my hands stayed in position for the entire rest of the session, with much going on energetically and with lots of physical releasing the entire time. Five days later, her mom said that several hours after the session, her daughter felt SIGNIFICANTLY better than she has since this started, and she's been able to get a good night's pain-free sleep during the last several nights for the first time in months.

I had an interestingly parallel experience with a client who has stenosis of the spine and other stuff going on and is on the verge of going for surgery to deal with the pain.

The first time, using the chasing the pain method, I was all over the place. She felt very relaxed by the end of the session, but by several days later felt significantly worse.

The second session, starting with the chasing the pain method, my bottom hand stayed on the one paintful spot the entire two-hour session (while my upper hand did its thing) dealing with a pain on her left thigh until I felt cool breezes all around her hip and thigh area, and the pain was gone. Several days later, she has remained pain-free on that side (though the pain has now moved to her right side, which I'll deal with tonight).
