Just a little story about my 25 year old mare, Lady. Two weeks ago I walked her down the lane to a friend's place, where Lady was going to stay for a week. The friend has two goats and a sheep that Lady was with for a week earlier in the summer. As I prepared to take her out of her pasture I was just sure she'd start pulling on the lead rope when she realized where we were headed. I did a little tapping on her and some energy breathing as I talked to her about walking politely to see her friends. We left her pasture and walked out toward the direction of the other pasture. She raised her head when she knew where we were going, but did not try to pull ahead of me. She was excited about meeting up with her buddies again, but was a perfect "Lady" all the way down the lane.

Hi Linda,
I just tapped along her back, before we left the pasture and said, "Even though I am excited about having some company since Azonta died, I will walk perfectly nicely to Nancy's pasture", etc. Then after we left the field, and she knew where we were going, she sped up just a little bit, and I tapped again with my right hand, and in my head asked her to calm down. She slowed down and walked at a normal pace and was very even tempered when I opened the other gate and lead her in. Usually, she would get all excited and almost drag me or push where she wanted to go. (Spoiled and bad manners...all my fault DCG |
