I've been told by a business mentor who's highly successful that we all need to create an elevator speech about what we do.

You know, you meet someone and they say, "So what are you up to these days" or some such. Our response, I'm told, will be listened to for seven to fifteen seconds. If we really catch the interest of the listener, we might get thirty seconds of their attention - about the length of an elevator ride.

In that short time, one is to convey one's passion first, details second. That's about all the guidance I recall.

I've written and rewritten what I'd like to say about QT and I'm still not happy at all. If I try and wing it, I find myself stumbling around in "energy" and "flow" and "wellness" which are quickly becoming those invisible words (they can't picture it, so it means nothing) to those who don't work in or experience complementary wellness care.

"Wellness care" is the closest I've come to an opening, and most eyes glaze over! It's not that I'm talking to the wrong people, either, because anyone may ask what I do and I want to convey accuracy and passion. Hmmm.

I'd appreciate hearing about a variety of different approaches. All posts appreciated.

Hi Jan,
I offer several modalities but I focus on QT so mine goes something like this....

My work is to assist your body's intelligence to heal itself. We all expect a cut or bruise to heal in a few days but somehow that 'born with' skill each of our cells has is forgotten when it comes to other 'illness'. Your body just needs more Life Force Energy to complete its job, so QT is an easy way to do just that.
Anyone can learn it, so can you.

It seems to work, because I get asked questions after that kind of statement. I am normally wanting to get people interested in taking QT classes so that is why I focus it that way.

Julie, that's a great starter for conversation. I'd agree, too, that if people ask questions when you finish, it's a good indicator that you captured their attention.

I'd love to hear more elevator speeches. We all need them. Even if you haven't yet created one you like, like Jana and I, maybe you could post your drafts and we can all work on honing each others' expression.

Not that yours needs work, Julie. It has to feel comfortable in the mouth of the speaker and still arrest the attention of the listener.

So, fambly, what do you say?

Wow, I just came across this gem by Luvshelper (Cindysue) on another thread:

"There are many ways that QT ( Quantum Touch )
works, but it we here send you energy to raise your vibration so that you may heal yourself. We are all energy as is everything on this earth and we all vibrate at different frequencies. When we are under stress or or are not feeling well our vibration changes and with the help of others sending and entraning you to a higher vibration, you are able to heal yourself. I like to use this annalogy: I am only the battery charger, YOU are the battery, and you power your own body/being."

Cleaned up a bit, that would be a great elevator speech.

What a coincidence, my elevator speech is just like Julie's, I also talk abot healig a cut or a bruise, and realigning hips.

Absolutely...the words must be the words of the speaker. YOU must feel completely comfortable with what you say because your clarity, your intent, and what you KNOW is what is really imparted, not the words by themselves.

I read the book, watched Richard talk about it on the Video workshop, wrote down what words from those things 'resonated' with me and my beliefs. Then I tried out different versions using words that fit my way of talking.

Finally the essence of my true beliefs and experience was summed up by what you read.

I just hope it inspires you to find your "words".

Here is what I say,
I teach people how to heal themselves and help others heal with the hands-on healing method known as Quantum-Touch
It's short and sweet and will elicit questions from anyone who is interested.

My "Elevator Speech" --

They ask, "What do you do?" (often from the polite society proper thing to ask)

I reply:

I delight in helping bodies be
a joy to live in . . .
Relieving pain . . .
Encouraging Healing

(I also have this on the back of my business cards - as printed above)

They say, "Gosh, How do you do that? Tell me more."

I say (always a question) "Are you experiencing any pain or discomfort right now?" I get them talking about themselves, and I respond with something like, "In your particular case, I would first check to see if the occipital bones in your head are aligned. Here -- let me show you." I make sure anyone they are with watches this. . .

By then, I have their full attention, I know a lot about their own physical condition -- which means I've gained some degree of trust -- and I've had hands on -- they have my business card -- their friends also want their heads adjusted -- I learn a lot about a lot of people's bodies -- have a lot of fun -- strangers in the vicinity watching come up and want more info -- people ask for appointments -- they're like puppets - if one wants an appointment, they all want appointments --etc.

My prices are also on the back of my business card so I don't have to discuss price. My cards are artistically beautiful. People like to touch them, feel them. (Hee Hee -- I created them myself on my trusty computer!) People ask for extras so they can give them to friends.

I have never advertised any other way!

Beware of ever asking me what I do!!

Now, to move to a building with more than four floors so that I can have captive audiences for longer!

According to a very successful guy called Michael Port the elevator speeches are out; instead he advises to talk about people we help and conditions we can be of assistance to.

Nothing abut the technique, well some of you guys are doing it already.The questions that should be covered during that speech elevator or other are for whom and what?

This is what people are allegedly interested in. One of his books is called Book yourself solid, he is conducted seminars on the same topic, and has podcasts every Monday for free. His link http://www.michaelport.com/

Of course there are many other schools out there, I appreciate this one because it is completely opposite to hard selling.

I've been working with the concept of explaining what problems I solve for people. Marina, I think this is what you mean about talking about the people and conditions we help. Truth Lover, I like the idea that you evoke feelings in your explanation.
