Hi all...
The last couple of months I have been trying out a NEW way to get people interested in having QT sessions. As you know most people immediately decide that 'alternative' treatments are too expensive because insurance usually does not cover the fee.

In response to that I have been asking people who are prospects, " do you have insurance?"
If their response is yes, then I ask, " what is your co-pay?"

I then tell them that I will offer them a QT session for the amount of their co-pay.
They have ranged from $10. to $40.

My strategy is to offer minimum of a 15 minute session and if they have a larger co-pay I will give them $1.00 per minute to the amount of their co-pay.

I don't seem to have to explain all this to the prospects, people are used to 5 minutes in a doctors office and don't feel any better when they leave. 15 minutes of QT can do miracles. I plan on setting up a series of visits depending on their situation.

I have an interview with the local paper next week to explain this option to the community. I am also offering other modalities and stress reduction programs as part of my practice.

I thought this idea may be something to offer in our efforts to support people in building a practice using QT.

Let me know what you think!!

Julie

Julie! That is an AMAZING IDEA! WoW!

So, I first thought, I HAVE TO DO THIS! Then I started thinking... what about those who will "pay" for these things. For instance. It's not uncommon to se people getting $45 - 30 min $75 - 60 min or more.

How can you play with "both" crowds...? Can you?

I wonder if I opened up to the "I'll take your co-pay" crowd then found someone who was more than able to pay the $75/hr how do I keep from really 'irking' my clients if they figure out they are all paying a different fee?

I thought maybe a sliding scale...? But then you pretty much force people to say "I don't have the $money$. That can be hard for some to do.

I don't know... I need to think about this... I really like the idea....

Please share your thoughts...

Peace!

I think your concerns are something you will want to work out on a personal basis. For many years I worked with my issues of 'worthiness' and changing the amount I charged. You may ask how does this relate?

It came down to the understanding that each person has ultimately to decide 'what value is my health?' The value I put on the work is important to that understanding.

The people that KNOW or LEARN the value of their health and what benefit they get from your sessions will be happy to pay you the full amount you ask, no questions. I have many people who give me MORE than I ask for.

The ones we are wanting to reach with this 'promo' are the ones that believe that they are dependent on someone outside of themselves to help them heal. This offer gives them a chance to experience something of REAL value that they would not experience any other way.

If I am on solid footing about my 'value' and have that worked out for myself then I am comfortable using the sliding scale. Anyway that has been my experience.

When I encounter people who I get a hint that they are too shy to tell me that they don't have the money, this way of opening the door with the co-pay seems to make it easier.

These are just my thoughts...anyone else got a take on this?

Hi Julie,
This is a brilliant idea. You are speaking to the mindset of a lot of people who desperately need to make a shift. They may never make that shift into realizing that they have the power within them to heal unless you start where they are. Do you offer these as sample sessions and then offer them a regular after that?

Hi
I offer 15 minute minimum for whatever your copay, anytime. If you want longer then you can increase the amount that you pay at $1. per minute.

Example: If you have a $30 copay you would get 30 minutes, $10. copay, 15 minutes,

This is for whenever they come, if that is all they feel that they can pay.

This sounds like an excellent idea Julie. How's it working out?

And this?

Our local "freebie" (South Coast Shopper - like Thrifty Nickel, Dandy Dime . . .) ran a one-page article when Rick became an instructor (for free). Since then they want to charge for everything. Ahwell, it was a great article. Smiler

Here is a link to an article by Mark Silver, an entrepreneur and coach for small businesses,I highly recommend his articles, he is talking to us. This one is about sliding scales and how to avoid them.
Enjoy

Would you explain what co-pay is please? (It's not something we are familiar with this side of the pond.)

Hi,
In the US medical insurance 'game' the patient is required to pay a small portion of the medical bill...this is called co-pay...because you are paying cooperatively with the insurance company the provider of the health service.

Is that clear? Or do I need to explain further.

Hi Julie

Thank you for the reply. I can see the principle of it; but if you would give me say a typical example (scenario) of how it works that would help me to understand it.

I hope you don't mind the questions. Red Face

I explained the way it works in my first post of this string...go back and read that and see if that helps.

Not sure what to tell you other than people pay me what they would pay any doctor visit based on their "co-pay"...this is all they have to pay a doctor for a visit...the rest of the fee is billed to the insurance company by the doctor.

I do not send a bill to the insurance company, I just accept what they would pay.
