Well, not so much a practitioner but in building a business...

With so many skeptics out there, and having to be very careful with what we say (ie. healing sessions, etc) I'm afraid of getting into trouble when I eventually start to charge for services.

For instance, there was a local woman here who charged for psychic readings, she was arrested and shut down. I don't know the whole story or understand why that would happen when there are so many doing the same thing, and not getting into trouble. Can anyone really prove someone else isn't psychic? And, since QT isn't as popular or as known as other alternative modalities... I'm afraid.

I quess when reiki was still a new alternative, there were similar fears with that. Is QT still relatively new?

And! What about insurances? For that 'you touched me inappropriately' client. Does anyone cover us?

I hope I am not the only one feeling this way, and I hope you all can help me get over it.

Thank you all

anytime you go into business you should consult an appropriate lawyer, and hold them on retainer. If you can afford it you should put all the lawyers in your area or state related to your business on retainer , and do it again for every area you go contracting.

That way it is exceedingly difficult for anyone to sue you as they have to go out of area. Also lawyers are fully informed on how to declare and conduct yourself.

Go to your local library and find books about Starting Your Own Small Business or some such. You'll get a better idea of what you could be getting into. Also check your local newspaper for workshops about small business. Sometimes, Chambers of Commerce or similar organization puts these on for free. Talk to people you know who own their owm small business or practice. Restrictions for energy healers vary by state, check yours via internet search. In Florida, for example, Reiki practitioners fall under the Florida Massage Board. QT may be flying under the radar but my mininster's license allows me to practice. Sorry for the ramble, but you've asked a very broad question.

Mostly, fear doesn't serve well. Knowledge will displace fear. Smiler

QT isn't exactly new (it got its roots going in the late '70s and early '80s), but it doesn't have the mind share that Reiki does. As such, there is even more skepticism regarding QT than with Reiki. We even saw our QT Wikipedia article deleted for reasons of pseudo-science and lack of significant 3rd-party information about it despite the similarities to Reiki. It was disappointing because Sonja, I and others put in significant work on the page. LMTs and RNs can get continuing education credits for taking a workshop, but, apparently, even that isn't enough to grant our art credibility.

As for other reading material, Dr. Lawrence Wilson wrote a book entitled Legal Guidelines For Unlicensed Practitioners. It's well worth the read as it will go a long way to keeping you out of trouble.

score offers mentoring to small business owners and in my area they also have classes that have volunteers that have experience in the areas that they speek.
I think they might also have online mentoring,
