During my live basic QT weekend workshop 2 weeks ago (my first experience with QT), when we were doing all those exercises and healings, our instructor kept telling me when and what I was doing wrong just by sensing my energy. This was really useful (and impressive), as we had the immediate feedback from the instructor on what we were doing. I am wondering how long it takes to develop such a sense of the energy so one can tell what the other person is doing on energy level. Is this something to do with opening the ‘third eye’?

Everyone has this ability.
As with any "muscle", the more you use it the stronger it gets. How quickly it happens depends on so many factors including how often ones practices QT.
After you become familiar with basic (usually about six months to a year (again, depending on your frequency of use) I would recommend the advanced classes as they further this ability.
Enjoy! Experiment! Have fun! Share it with everyone you meet. There are people hurting around us everywhere who will be happy to let you practice on them.
