Hello!

I've been interested in healing for a couple of years now and have really wanted to learn modalities such as NMT (Feinberg's neuro-mod), NET and such. Some, like the NMT, require a certain level of degree, such as a DC or MD. Others are more open to anyone, like Matrix Energetics.

The thought I'd developed, but haven't been able to work toward yet, was to begin by working toward a massage therapy certification, picking up healing modalities along the way, and eventually move on to chiropractic, or some other higher level degree, to open more options.

I've read the QT practitioner certification requirements and am wondering...

How many of you practice QT as a part of income? More specifically, how many practice it for income without other certifications?

For example, I'd asked the nurses' board in Virginia (my state), the regulatory body for massage therapy, who governs energetic alternative medicine in the state and what requirements or restrictions there might be. The reply basically told me that there is no governing body for energy medicine so it seems that, as long as certain boundaries (such as medical diagnosis) aren't crossed, a person could practice energy medicine such as QT.

What thoughts, experiences or input do you all have about this? Would it be an adviseable route to certify in QT (and possibly other modalities) and begin any sort of side business before liscensing from the state in massage therapy or such? From experience, how is the demand - steady enough clients / income?

Any thoughts from your experiences would be wonderful!

Thanks!

Tim

There are different requirements in different states. Here in Florida, the massage board claims oversight over energy work; they deem it to be massage. In order to touch anyone in this state, one has to have a medical or massage license or be an ordained minister.

Cris...

Thanks much for your reply. What you're seeing in the way Florida works things makes sense. Virginia seems a little bit more muddled.

The Virginia Board of Nursing, who regulate massage therapists, sent me the following in response to a question I had sent them on whether they also govern energy work and, if so, what regulations might apply. This was almost a year ago and I just dug this quote out from a search in my email box:

"The Board of Nursing regulates massage therapists, and does not regulate other forms of therapy. If an individual plans to practice as a massage therapist in Virginia, they must be certified by the Board of Nursing to do so. An individual may practice without being certified as long as they do not use the title of massage therapist in any way and as long as the county city they plan to practice in allows it. Other forms of therapy such as energy work are not regulated on a state level to our knowledge."

Sufficiently muddled on the massage therapy??? Big Grin It's as if to say, yes you may practice massage without oversight as long as you don't officially call it practicing massage. So, if one were to dub themselves a "Rub Therapist" would they be exempt?!! *lol* But, it does also seem to suggest that energy work kinda falls through some cracks, unless there's a catch I'm not aware of. Much less cut and dried than Florida, it seems.

So, it's that that makes me wonder about the viability, but not just legally. I would double check on the legality with a lawyer or others who may know what restrictions apply in Virginia and locally. Most definitely!

The thought of even practicing energy work before a massage therapy certification is new... really stems off of how accessable QT is. I wonder mainly how well others who might be doing so are doing with their business. I'd imagine that business would definitely be much better for those who practice it in conjunction with other skills... chiropractic, naturopathy, massage, acupuncture, etc. But, then, is there any business for strictly energy work?

Thanks again for your thoughts!

Hi Tim,

I would suggest learning QT first. It will be the easiest, remarkably effective, and most affordable healing modality of all the options you're considering.

I was a paramedic for 11 years and, in my 20+ years as a massage therapist, I've spent tons of money on courses such as Reconnective Healing (3 courses), Pranic Healing, Reiki (Level 1, twice), Craniosacral Therapy (CST 1, twice), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT), Myofascial Release (MFR, 2 courses), Electro Therapeutic Point Stimulation (ETPS), and 2 boxes of bandaids Big Grin

All but 2 of these courses were not taught locally (massage and 2nd CST 1), so the additional expense of travel (airfare or gas), lodging, meals, and income lost being away from my clients adds up to the annual budget of a third world country.

With all this education and experience under my belt, Quantum-Touch has provided the most practical and fastest healing results I've ever seen. In other words, Tim, for $295 + the price of the manual, the Live Basic QT Workshop was not only the most affordable workshop I've taken (the video workshop was not yet available in 2002), it has proven to be my all-time favorite modality.
Getting people to try QT has not been easy for me, so I continue to practice massage as my steady income. I introduce QT at holistic health fairs, benefits, the local food co-op and, of course, people who come to see me for massage. The word is getting out, but not quite accepted as mainstream, yet.

Another easy and even more affordable way to learn and promote QT is through the Interactive Video Workshop (VWS). You can facilitate a VWS before you ever crack open the manual. Richard Gordon teaches the workshop while you sit in and watch. All of the basic techniques are clearly described and demonstrated, many of the most common questions are answered, and everyone gets time to practice all of the techniques, including the "fun stuff" at the end. As the facilitator, you don't have to pay the $90 tuition, and QT pays YOU $40 for every person who completes the 12-hour course. What's not to like? The complete directions for facilitating a VWS are explained on the website.

I charge $50 for a 1-hour QT session. Depending on your specific location, the going rate for energy work/massage therapy, and the average income of your clients, that fee is variable.

After all these years of practicing QT, I'm still blown away by what people tell me they experience during and/or after their session. And all I have to do is keep my breathing connected with my body awareness, which brings me to what I consider to be the most precious, albeit often overlooked benefit of Quantum-Touch.

The ONLY place we can ever exist is in this moment called "now". We cannot rewind or fast-forward our lives even a fraction of a nanosecond. The joy, inner peace, contentment, love, knowledge, satisfaction, happiness, clarity, understanding, consciousness, the ocean of answers...exist only in the present moment. And what is bringing this precious gift of life into our bodies in this moment called "now"? Our breath.

Quantum-Touch requires that you focus on every breath to attain the best results possible. As you focus on every breath, you get to EXPERIENCE that gift of life flowing through you and ENJOY your own existence as you FEEL the GRATITUDE for Life itself while, at the same time, you get to help relieve someone's pain, illness, and/or disease - the very reason I chose the medical profession more than 40 years ago.

I hope this helps, Tim. Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Peace,
Rick Garzaniti

Rick...

It does, thanks! Yes, I'm definitely sold on following through on QT certification, though timing will depend on other factors. I've also noticed that it IS more affordable than many others. The consideration now, though, is whether to attempt to build any sort of business (even side income) out of it even before certification in anything else.

On that note, your comment about peoples' resistance to trying QT in sessions is a factor. And that's exactly why I'm looking for input for those out there with practices. Thanks!

I love your paragraph on the "now" of breathing. Beautifully put!

SIDE NOTE: As for the modalities you mentioned... I've worked a bit with TAT and AFT (which could be considered a lesser known "sister/brother" of EFT, both AFT and EFT created by students of the same teacher as offshoots of the teacher's method... I forget which). In both cases, I worked from the free material on both websites and had wondered how much more effective the classes were. TAT seemed to relieve some things fairly well, somewhat like a releasing process, and AFT seemed pretty cumbersome after awhile. I've wondered how aspects of both could be melded into other techniques to "supercharge" and have cautiously played around with a modified TAT pose (on myself) with QT-style charged hands.

But, I'm wandering off topic and I REALLY need to get to work on my daughter as I'd posted a little while ago!

Thanks and have a great day... errr, night!

Tim
